hi, i'm new to the hobby- i am interested in tokens - exonumia- have searched the web band found a ton of information, but i was wondering if anyone can point me to what would be considered "THE" resource for tokens. the best books, websites, dealers, etc. I'm just starting out, so I apologize of this is the wrong place to post this, etc. Any help, guidance and direction is much appreciated. Welcome to CoinTalk! Exonumia has many aspects, and many of the latest references have been out of print for years, hence some are very hard to find. I collect most types of U.S. exonumia. Even with well over 200 books in my exonumia library, it is far from being complete. If you can mention some particular areas of interest, I would be glad to give you some titles to help in your quest.
hi, thanks. my areas of interest are new york-related stuff from the 1800's. i like pretty much all the hard times tokens i've seen (ny-specific or not), as well as the advertisements- picked up a token last night for a grocery/market place from 1863. for now, i could care less about investment- the amount of money i am spending is small- just want to pick up anything i see that i like so i can examine it in person and get a better idea of what i really like so i can proceed in a specific direction. i also like counterstamped coins- (doesn't have to be a token- i'll take a quarter with someone's name stamped into it, etc). if there's a good reference guide i could pick up, a reliable price guide, info on pricing trends and forecasts, population reports (raw and slabbed)- stuff like that. as i get more into it, its important to me to understand price structure and scarcity. it may be worth mentioning that i'm very big into vintage baseball cards, so i understand the slab versus raw, "how to judge a seller on ebay" issues, etc. any and all info is appreciated. please feel free to email me privately. thank you very much.
