In that condition, I don't think the 1913-D is worth anywhere close to $100. Nor do I think it's worth the fees try to have it conserved. But it's still a fun find.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Poor coin looks to have some environmental damage. I'm not sure its worth sending to NCS, but something should be done to try and rescue that thing. I'm just concerned about what you might find underneath.

I would soak the 13-D in Tarn-X for a couple of days. That should make it look a lot better! :thumb:

    Ribbit :)

Ps: Use a small jar with a sealable lid, since Tarn-X evaporates fast! :goofer:

Very nice find in change. Obverse details look to be better than G.

Not worth sending in to anyone for an attempt to restore. However, a great coin for experimenting. I'd start with just soaking in distilled water. then possibly some Acetone. Some have said Vinegar has some effects for restoration but I've had no luck with that.
Try some miscellaneous items around the house such as Tomato Juice, Lemon Juice, molases, etc. The main thing is to not use any kind of brush, rags or towels to rub off anything. Try being gentle with what you try.

Don't use anything with acid, it will make it copper colored. That's why I use Tarn-X for cleaning a nickel but it takes several days soaking to get them clean(er). ;)

    Ribbit :)
