Check out this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/Lot-of-20-Kenne...QptZCoinsQ5fUSQ5fIndividualQQsalenotsupported 20 random Kennedy half dollars ($10), and the bid is $13 + $3 shipping. So, an ebayer is paying $16 for this, or could go to the bank and pay $10 for it. Hmmmmmmm, I think I'll pay $16. Nuts.
I have no interest in such coins. But, I can understand that to some people, it might be worth the extra $6 not to have to get out and drive to the bank.
But, don't you understand? They are all CARDED! what ever the heck that means. [yeah, I know, I know, they are in 2X2's. I just hate the expression.]
The seller is brand new to eBay. They've been members since June 26th, and have ZERO feedback. It looks like they just threw 20 Kennedy's in 2x2s to make them look good. They have four auctions listed right now: 3 lots of 20 half dollars, and a 1922 peace dollar. None of their auctions tell anything about the coins. Pass.
Also, 2 of the 4 bidders on the auction also happen to be new members with zero feedback. That could just be a coincidence though.
Or they live somewhere like I do where their local bank doesn't keep any half dollars on hand. The teller at my bank who I talk to most often said they wait until they get so many and then send them back with all the other change that piles up. Even common halves are getting hard to find in places where you'd think they'd be as common as dirt. Guy~
An eBay dealer listed a Star Silver Certificate and describes the Star Note as a 1935-C. The descriptive part of the post further says, "The bill in the photo below is the Silver Certificate you will receive. He has two separate lisings. Neither bill in his photos are Star Notes Of course, he hasn't gotten any bids so far which calmed me down. Just adding fuel to the fire you started.... *#@ eBayers! Clinker
Did you contact the seller to let him know? I have found that often, sellers are unaware of their listing errors AND thankful for the head's up.
My local banks don't keep them on hand either, but they are willing to order them in boxes of $100 worth at a time..... They are so nice
First, I would just like to say that my bank doesn't have any Kennedy's or any of the dollar coins!! Second, The #1 rule is buy what you want. Just because you would buy it doesn't mean that someone else wont buy it. Third, this really isnt that crazy....what about the people that were paying over $1000 for a $25 box of Lincolns.
Maybe the buyer is in Canada? I know that I would LOVE it if someone in Great Britain would put up lots of the new style 'pocket change' for reasonable shipping fees - Same goes for the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, and about 100 other countries around the world, including the Eurozone!
What's wrong with paying 80c for a 50c coin that you can't even find in circulation and rarely find in banks? Ike $1 are selling for anywhere from $2 to $30 each coin!
The winnner could have been from out of the country....Im in Canada and i collect them...tho I wouldnt buy a grab bag like that lot mind you.
I often hear that well they only have 10 feedbacks etc.... You know everyone has to start at zero. Is he taking advantage of someone maybe maybe not. He's offering a product for sale and someone out there is willing to pay a premium for them. I feel like the guy is trying to get started and I bet he will go the extra mile if he really is trying to get his start. No I wouldn't buy the coins but we all know there are really stupid buyers out there on ebay. Ice
Gonna have to remember that because I card stuff up all the time. Seriously though. Some people just never see half dollars so they think they're all rare. I hand them back to people constantly when they come in to sell their coins and tell them to spend them. Put them in a 2x2 and it increases value. (We charge $2.50/100) After fees the seller will make next to nothing. He'll have to handle and ship them after all. Nothing like dealing in rare coins.
Well, you never know, what if this seller is stupid and doesn't know that in 64' they were 90% silver, or he doesn't know the years that they were in 40% silver... You never know you could get some silver kennedys.. But to me, it would be worth it, just to go to the bank, so I could get the $10 of halves for $10, and then ask for 2009 nickels and dimes, only to get that "look"
