This token fits perfectly in a U.S. Quarter 2X2 Flip, It has the same reeded edge, rim, teeth, and stars of a Barber Quarter and weighs 6.3 grams. I would really like to know more about this token, such as who had it minted and if it was produced by the U.S. Mint, and if anyone may know its value?
I have no idea what it is worth... but for what it is worth, that is the neatest thing I have seen all day.
Id like to know who was the bone head that drilled the hole in it. Seriously, Im dying to learn some history about this interesting token
I have 2 at this time, and I saw one on ebay that was dug up in virginia and the guy was starting the bid on that one at 40 dollars. His only has a shadow of detail left on it. he is a power seller with 100% Feedback and decent prices on his other stuff, so I might have two great finds here.
Pre Civil War Medal This add was put out by the American Anti- Tobacco Society in the year 1855. George Trask, a Massachusetts minister who founded the American Anti-Tobacco Society in 1850, visited schools around the country and urged young people to take the Band of Hope pledge: "I hereby solemnly promise to abstain from the use of all Intoxicating Liquors as a beverage; I also promise to abstain from the use of Tobacco in all forms, and all Profane Language." In the 1890s Lucy Page Gaston adopted a similar strategy, leading boys and girls in the Clean Life Pledge: "I hereby pledge myself with the help of God to abstain from all intoxicating liquors as a beverage and from the use of tobacco in any form."
I tried to look it up in a U.S. Tokens guide, but it wasn't listed, if anyone could please check for me in a Medals guide, it would be much appreciated. I know that the add was put out by the American Anti- Tobacco Society in the year 1855, and the location of the add was Fitchburg, MA. If any one could tell me its aprox. values or a refference mumber it would be very helpful.
I am still seeking information on this Medal, as per it's approx. value and a ref number if it has one? Any help would be very useful to me, thank.
Did you Google anything about this token? The link below was the first search result I got just from searching, ""i will never use tobacco in any form" token" ...and they have a suggested sale price too. http://www.exonumia.com/sale11/allb.htm "2770. Anti-Tobacco Medal, ca. 1850. Unusual medal similar to temperance medals, but for tobacco. "I Will Never Use Tobacco in Any Form" around man trampling tobacco leaves / "Tobacco Tends to Idleness, Poverty, Strong Drink, Vice, Ill Health, Insanity & Death" Rare. Nice medal. 24 mm, gilt brass, holed for suspension. Bright Unc., rare this nice! $75.00-100.00+"
This is great news, I got my two at a local antique shop for ten cents each, sweet, thank you very much. Although it doesn't surprise me that a couple decent quality ones would be up here in Mass, where it started with Rev. Trask.
Also check completed eBay auctions. There were others there as well that had various prices, less than this one.
Based on everyones help and my own research I have now listed it on ebay... Thanks guys. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180376407997
HOLY crud! what a thing to say!!! Just kidding... LOL! :rolling: There aren't many type O's on CT but there sure are a lot of typos and we can all stand to keep those in check with modern software and auto spell check.

Just in case anyone wishes to know, this Medal yielded $41.00 USD at auction, although I accidently set the end date for the 4th of July I believe it may have had more bids ending on another day. But I am thrilled for I only payed ten cents for it and I still have one to keep that I also bought for only ten cents.
