I am constantly amazed at every ones photos. From simple to complex, what do you use. I am familiar with Astronomy and know the lower the power the better the viewing. I see these usb microscopes that go to 1600x which is way to much. So, what system do you use.? I thank you. Old Mammothtooth
Phone cameras have gotten ridiculously good at this point, but when I want to take Serious Photos I use a Canon DSLR with an actual macro lens and a sturdy vertical stand.
Same here. I use a Canon with a Sigma 150mm macro. It makes it easy. I need to learn my phone and give it a try.
I use a Nikon DSLR with a 60mm macro lens on a tripod with a horizontal extender. Sometimes I use a stack of books atop a table as a base to get the coin closer to the lens. Depending on the toning (if any) I shoot the coin at an angle (to show off the toning) with direct artificial lighting (diffused to avoid glare) and then make the coin round again in Photoshop. If the coin is not toned, I just shoot it straight on, again with diffused lighting. For proofs or specimen coins, I shoot head-on through glass placed at a 45-degree angle, with the light source aimed directly towards the bottom of the glass. The light is automatically directed straight towards the coin that way. I also set the coin on a piece of grey card (available at camera stores or online), and then correct the color (again, in Photoshop) using the grey card to attain the correct white balance. I hope all that makes sense
I only have my cell phone. Sometimes I get great photos, other times it's not so great. Darker coins like ancients are difficult to photograph. I do the best I can.
The answer is you balance the phone horizontally on the coffee cup. Put the coin on the table, focus take picture. Remove phone from top of coffee cup and have a sip of coffee
