Issues with Images

Every since Coin Talk went down for a while last week, I've seen some strange things happening with images. Many posts refer to a coin photo included with the post, but instead of the photo, all I see is (Bracket)IMG(Bracket). If I highlight and "+Quote" the post and then insert it into the reply box at the bottom of the page, the actual image appears. This only happens with some members' posts. Images in other people's posts appear just fine.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I generally use Firefox, but I get the same result with Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Does anyone know what is going on?

Yes. I went to a past auction of John Anthony to grab a photo of something I purchased and I can't see it. There is that broken image thingy and I just hate to bother him ... so I'll wait and see if the links get fixed. I wondered if it were just me having the problem. Thanks for mentioning it.

Yep, I understand Peter's been made aware of the issue and is looking at it.

The ones that are broken link to images hosted on external sites. The ones that still work are ones that were uploaded to CoinTalk via the "Upload a File" button. (There are other nuances, but that's the general idea.)

If you do want to see one of the broken images, try starting a Reply to the post (you needn't actually post the reply). As @gsimonel said above, you'll see the image in your reply box, and you can even download it from there.

You can get the original url by removing the proxy and replacing the unicode with forward slashes.

That you can. I'm too lazy to write a tutorial on URL unquoting, though.

It's much easier to hit Reply, then copy the URL from the image preview that appears inside the quote.

I would just write a parser but I'm sure it'll be fixed soon.
    You're right, that is easier.

I have noticed this problem when I post something and decide I missed a few words. When I edit the pictures go away and the brackets appear. I delete the brackets and reinsert the pic.

I think that's a separate issue, and one that's always been present. If you do upload your photos using Upload a File, they don't show up properly in the preview when you're editing. But if you just make your text changes and save, they still show up in your edited post. You shouldn't have to reinsert the pic each time.

Yeah I noticed this issue too - seems to happen as mentioned to above only to hotlinked images.

I often copy images from my website to a coin talk thread. I can't do this right now because of the issue discussed above, so as a workaround I just copy the photo from the site, open some photo editing software, paste and then save the photo to my desktop and upload it. If I copy the photo into a buffer first, when I open a new file in my editing software it automatically makes the file the correct size. Takes an additional 15 seconds or so. I can live with this until the problem gets fixed. But I'm glad to know it's not a problem with my computer.

I, Ocatarinetabellatchitchix, officially declare and name the date February 1st "THE BLACK MONDAY" of Cointalk, one of the worse day in the history of this site........

Yes, I got caught up in this - I was guilty of hot linking to my existing pages when quoting for replies. No more.
