Here's a nickel that I picked up with some other coins. The dealer couldn't sell about 10 coins so I bought them on the cheap, like pennies on the dollar. This was labeled MS-63, full steps. It's okay to laugh, I did.
Low to mid grade Jeffersons arent hot sellers. Collectors want top of the mark coins and FS if you are talking early Jeffersons or even a full step 1964 P or D. The 64 Jefferson nickel were the most minted of the series. Back in my roll and bag searching days I probably went thru 1000's of 64 nickels never even finding 1 near full steps... You specimen looks nice from your image however your image isn't clear enough to make a good call...IMHO. However early Jeffs do have quite a few varieties.....find a nice variety in mid grades you maybe in high cotton.
Maybe he had an assistant put these in the 2X2's and just told them to copy the label from another, which was indeed FS.
What tickles me.... I been collecting coins since the 1970’s. I even owned several slabbed coins with “FH” or “FS”..... And until I joined CT I have to profess that I didn’t even realize what these designations represented. I bought coins based on my visual standards..... It is laughable that a dealer would put an FS on a 2X2 line that. Certainly is a nice nickel, but he put that designation on that label to lure unsuspecting collectors.
Just goes to prove again a collector needs to know what they are doing themselves, and never rely on dealers completely. Nice coin excepts for number of steps OP.
Waiting for SuperBowl to start, I remembered a roll of uncirculated 1964 nickels received from a bank several years ago A quick search showed no FS but a few close. I assume someone searched before me but hope springs eternal Here’s one of the best, I think it’s better than the hole filler in my Dansco so it’s worth the 15 minutes I spent In acetone hoping the little green corrosion didn’t destroy it Wish me luck Another one is pretty close to the same, no green
