I have a half, and while I have nothing better to do, wanted to take a look. 1818, but I have seen just one with these open-top eights. in that case, the stars appeared wonky so I was a little lost. I know THE book is not online. Totally something I would purchase as capped bust halves are slowly becoming my thing. But, amazon says 95 dollars so naaaaah. I'll just get another half for that price. Not in my dorm at the moment, if you have a copy please DM me! Thanks, Evan Also, post your capped busts
You might want to ask @okbustchaser about Overton variety attribution. Anyway, here's my only CBH; he attributed it as an O-105a not long after I first posted it almost a year ago. It also resides in my Dansco 7070.
Overton 108 better known as the "Pincher 8"...one of the most easily recognizable varieties in the series because of the 8's.
O-103, I got it in a trade for a capped bust half love token from @lordmarcovan who I was delighted to chat with!
If you're after an Overton, I just got a brand new 5th edition copy from Brooklyn Gallery for $59.95 plus $6.25 shipping. I found them on either Amazon or eBay but they also have a website. www.brooklyngallery.com
Here is one that goes by the moniker "Comet Head". Another that is easy to spot. O-106. I like your pincer 8 example. It's one I have my eye out for.
I have a 3rd Edition Overton, and if I recall I paid around $80. I'd get the new 5th Ed. if I actively collected Bust Halves.
No real reason to update to the 5th. There's not enough new material to be worth it. The only real difference is Al Overton's son-in-law stealing credit for writing it rather than merely doing an edit job.
