Hello, I was wondering if these dansco archival slipcases are worth the cost? This might sound stupid, but are these worth it just for uncirculated/proof coins or are they also needed for older low-grade coins (it seems to me that my sets with coins that are not close to bu: walking liberty, barber dimes, old wheat cents don't tone at all).
They are very nice albums. I had a number of sets in Whitman books and transferred all of them to Dansco. If you want to look at the set as a whole and enjoy it they are great. It really depends on the amount you want to allocate for your coin purchasing budget. With the Dansco you don't have to upgrade.
It's a product I hadn't heard of until now. Must be Dansco's answer to Intercept Shield. I have no idea if it works or not - or if it is worth it. But if it does, and you don't want your coins to tone - then it would be. But your comment about circulated coins not toning - can be a couple of reasons for that. Number one would be that you store them properly. Coins that are stored in cool, dry places with consistent temperature are much less likely to tone. And circulated coins are already toned to varying degrees, so additional or different toning is not likely to occur as the toning they already have prevents it when they are stored properly. But place circulated coins in an ordinary album ( one without anti-corrosion materials ) and store them in a humid area with changing temps - and they'll tone. They'll tone a lot.
