I've posted this before: Now, oriniginally I thought it was plated with aluminum foil. When I did it, I wrapped this tightly in aluminum foil, and placed it under the heating rod in the oven, and let it cook while I cooked a pizza. However, I just looked at it again, and thought: what about this: http://www.cointalk.com/forum/t52821/ Is it possible the heat toned it silver color? I thought of it again today because (I don't have a picture) but I was experimenting again, and I turned a silver dime gold... and it's certainly not plated. Although I didn't wrap it in foil, just used foil to hold it in place. I'll get pics of the gold dime soon. What are your thoughts? edit: here's the dime
Not sure I understand did you find the 1960 or make it? If you did not make it, what does the one you made look like? Besides I thought heating copper turned it blue.
I've experimented with heat treating, it does strange things to a copper cent. I have an 81 that turned silver and others that changed all kinds of colors.
Thanks. What was my original thought. But what made me rethink it was this dime, which isn't plated, and Charmy's silver-toned cent...
Mercury was rubbed on this coin.... if you take Mercury and rub it on a copper coin it will turn silver. Try it you'll see. Paddy
You need to realize there are more ways than 1 that a cent can turn silver. This coin was red before I put it in the oven.
