Uncirculated 2019 Kennedys

In my latest box of 50 cent coins, spread across several rolls were 19 uncirculated 2019 Kennedys, both P and D mints. I added one of each to my collection, but don't want to keep the others. Question is: did the mint release these or did someone but them from the mint, and dump them? I find it curious. IMG_5481.JPG

NIFC coins - not intended for circulation (premium coins with a slight mark up from the mint)

most likely someone wanted to get the best and spend the rest from rolls or bags

The only to get them was from the mint but you should be able to sell them for at least $1.00 each to recover your costs.

Seems like it has been more than 10 years since the mint issued halves for circulation - maybe even longer. These were ordered from the mint and a premium was paid for them. You should be able to either sell them to a LCS or list them and make a bit.

The 2017 halves were made for circulation, the 2018 fiscal year report shows too high a mintage for just collector sales and an actual seigniorage profit which they don't show for any other recent year. the 2020 report isn't out yet but eh production figures for 2020 seem a little on the high side (most years show about 3.4 million coins 2020 shows 5.7 million) so some circulation 2019's could be a possibility. Unfortunately the annual reports no longer show a month by month production breakdown so it can be difficult to tell if they are reporting calendar year or fiscal year production. For example all the 2020 dated coins since July first are fiscal year 2021 coins.

The fiscal year for the federal government is October 1 to September 30 of the next year.

But the fiscal year for the MINT is July 1 to June 30.

People buy mint bags of these coins. Keep the very highest graded ones
and sell them at high prices, and dump the rest at face value.
I assume you got the dumps. They are still low mintage and good condition,
prob $1-$2 each depending on condition. If you were to sell in bulk to an LCS,
    I imagine .75 each.

But if they dumped the coins back at the bank, it is unlikely they come back rolled in solid date rolls. The question is, were the rolls got that wizank got in the box "bank wrapped" rolls, or customer wrapped rolls?

They were Loomis wrapped, and the coins were spread out over about 10 different rolls. They were all in a box of Kennedys that I ordered from the bank. I think they were the consolation prize for not finding any silver.

The mint last made halves for circulation in 2001. 2002 on are NIFC. They do not carry a premium. If you find a coin store to pay over face for them you’ll be the first. It’s not uncommon to find a handful up to several hundred in a box of halves. It’s also not uncommon to find them in their original government wrappers.

I’ve hunted over a million halves and have found many 1,000’s of NIFCs.

We saved them out of the rolls for 20 years and now we can't get rid of them quick enough. Keep a few for your books, as you would other other clads, but they're just that, clads, and the mint just found out late the same thing we knew, i.e., nobody wants them. Except the silvers, keep your eyes out for those silver proofs.

Thanks everyone. Actually I have always kept the best, shiniest Kennedys and dollar coins and $2 bills for tips and gratuities. Most people love to get them. Now I will add my NIFCs to that also. (Unless someone here wants some).
