Dutchman, I was thinking about the same! IMHO, it will go at least PF-65 but not higher due to some slight compression or light rub on some of the high spots on Miss Liberty...especially the high spots on her' hairline. There also appears to be the same on the high spots on the Eagle. I'm also concerned what the Graders may say about the texture of Miss Liberty's face. All in all, a very nice Proof Morgan that any Collector would be honored to own! Frank
The strike is amazing even for a proof , but on the last set of pics with the eagle facing right , I can see some hairlines between the Eagles wing and the wreath , some haze aruond In God We Trust , and some mark under the E in one , after seeing these marks I'd say PF-64 TO 65 , Still a killer coin though , and very nice pics . Hope the pictures are exagerating these marks as this can happen a lot . rzage
Your last set of pics give a much better view of how the coin looks in hand. We can see the minimal hairlines, excellent strike etc.... Looks like there are enough hairlines to keep it to the middle 60's range though.
Lead, I am shipping this coin tomorrow. I waited a few extra days because I was waiting on my NGC certified dealer papers to go through. They did, so I'm gonna ship this dude tomorrow.
Looks funny to me ... gonna put my neck way out there and say its counterfeit Nose Eyes Rough Cheek ... .. dunno .. I own one and it does not have any of the features shown in these pictures.
I am absolutely confident that this is a genuine proof piece. I have handled quite a few of these over the years and this one in hand doesn't throw any red flags to me... Will it grade? I sure hope so.
I think you just lost your head. There is no way the coin is counterfeit. In fact, I have never seen a counterfeit Proof Morgan dollar. The worst case scenario would be a no-grade due to altered surfaces.
Crusty These old proof coins are not like modern proofs where every coin is a nice frosty cameo. The cameo effect was produced only for the first couple of coins from each die. Then it wore off and the cameo gradually became less pronounced, until there was no cameo effect left.
"First couple of coins" sounds like a huge understatement to me. The large numbers of cameos extant indicate that it was a lot more than "first couple of coins".
