Hi all.......I am new. Trying to figure out how to tell if you have authentic 1955 double die copper penny. I have one that my step mother put back for me years ago. I need some advice. Thanks. This is first time submitting. Also, what would be the best site to go to to evaluate value of other coins I have? Thanks!
If it looks like this you have a winner As far as it's autentication you would have to submitt it to somebody a company that would see if it's a fake or not I send my coins to Ken potor for attributing purposes. When I know I have a doubled die I will submitt it to him to verify that it is . Look him up on the net he will give you his fees for the services You also can post some pics of the coin and we may be able to tell you if it's a fake or not Good luck with the coin The other question to evaluate your other coins you may be able to get the information here in the thread what;s it worth. The green spot may be a little corrosion or oxidation spot no big deal. unless it were uge it will effect the value then, but not much with the king of the doubled die cents Joe
Now you need to find a 1955 other Variety Double Die Obv. 2-o-ll+V! The rare one! I had 4 of them all graded MS-64's 3 were red ms-64's the last one was a RB MS-64 sold all of them on e bay ..... wish I had of held the RB MS-64 it was the only one graded MS-64 in RB! Rene Now that you've had a chance to compare the pic in this thread to the coins you have you need to find a local coin dealer that advertises themselves as a PCGS dealer. PCGS is a coin grading company that for a small fee will authenticate your coins and place them in a sealed plastic holder. To learn more about PCGS go here --> http://www.pcgs.com/ There is a link at the bottom of the PCGS.com home page where you can look up your location and find a local dealer. Your local coin dealer can assist you in getting your coins sent in. There is a cost to do this. But, by getting the coins authenticated and assigned a condition grade you will be able to evaluate their worth, and if you decide to sell, the coins will be readily marketable.
Paddy 1955 VP-002 is a nice DDO in its own right, but it is considered not quite as unbelievable as the VP-001 which is generally the one thought of when 1955 DDO lincoln is mentioned.
Paddy, you have posted a pic of DDO #2, the lesser of several known. DDO #1 or FS-01-1955-101 is the biggie. Still, a totally cool coin to own, I just hope you did not pay for the king in order to get the jester insteadhya: It has happened by shyster dealers and is common to see on Ebay. Ha Jack, not by much. I wonder why NCG insists on using VP ( Variety Plus) numbers instead of FS, etc. I hope Paddy knew he was getting the Die #2 when obtained. The way NCG labels them, it is somewhat deceiving. JIm
1955 VP-002 is rarer than the VP-001 The FS#1 cent -021.8 has a URS-15 where as thw FS#1 cent -021.9 has a URS-7 see cherry pickers page 122 4 th ed vol one. also see PCGS & NGC population reports! VP-001 is the biggie the VP-002 is the rarer! P.S. these were found cherry picking in rolls.......
