Hi, I found this in my change and am just trying to figure out if this is a double die. If not, does anybody know what it is called and if there is any value to it?

What I am seeing on the reverse are the ridges along the left sides of the letters in "States" and "America."

    Thanks!

No, this is not a doubled die. "shelf like" is the way die wear like this is commonly described

When you see pieces of the top letters chopped off like that to form pieces of the bottom letters, that's strike doubling.

A true double die is when the doubling is cut directly into the die from the hub as a mistake and every coin strike from that die will show it. Look closely at the dramatic 55 & 72 lincoln double dies where many were minted in different states of die wear. As opposed to "Strike" or "Machine" doubling. This is when a little movement of the planchet within the collar between die strikes causes a double effect as shown in your picture. The die strike may be perfect on the next coin minted.

    Not a Doubled Die coin.
