Hi everyone, I'm going to be trading some coins tomorrow for some higher quality coins, and am wondering what is a good site that dealers use to get prices? The bid prices on the CDN newsletter are much different then say, the NumisMedia Wholesale ask prices. I'm going to be trading: 1894 $10 MS64 NGC 1910-D $10 MS65 NGC and possibly 1901-S $10 MS65 NGC I will be dealing with folks at Legend Numismatics, who I've purchased from in the past, but I do not have experience in selling/trading. Please let me know, I am heading there tomorrow! Thanks in advance!
I'm going to list approximate values that I think you should be able to sell such coins for, outright. Trade values could be slightly higher, depending on what you are trading for and how the coins that you're trying to obtain are priced: 1894 $10 MS64 NGC $2250-$2350 1910-D $10 MS65 NGC $6000-$7500 (the higher price being if it is really nice and/or has been stickered by CAC) 1901-S $10 MS65 NGC $4000-$5000 (the higher price being if it is really nice and/or has been stickered by CAC) You are unlikely to get low or bargain prices from Legend, but they typically handle very nice coins and treat collectors fairly.
Hey Jesh, I would not try to price a coin from any print pricing guide, because they are always off of the market price and they are mainly for refer. I would try http://www.pcgs.com/prices/ or go to Heritage and look at the bidding history of these two coins to find the market value.
If he looks at the PCGS price Guide numbers he will probably come away with unrealistic hopes or expectations. I listed suggested price ranges based on a combination of sight unseen bids, sight seen bids and auction prices.
Yes I agree, but he wanting a price guide and I think it is one of the better one out there as far a pricing guides goes. That is why I told him to look at Heritage bidding history for his two or three coins which would give him a more accurate market price.
The g$10 Indian is below. And unfortunately pictures don't do coins justice. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1118&Lot_No=9447 I think Mark's prices seem more likely. I can't understand why NGC is listing a 1920-D MS65 @ $9330.00. The coin(s) I am interested in trading/paying extra for are: http://www.legendcoin.com/cgi-bin/inventory/itemlist.pl?category=Gold:Eagles I like the 1932 but I will have to see it in person. I do trust Laura's judgement, and the coins I have purchased in the past from them have been nothing but top notch. I am expecting to need to trade the 1910-D and 1901-S and pay extra cash, but I suppose it all depends on what kind of offers I receive. If the 1901-S price isn't good enough, I will just dump the 1894, 1910-D and pay extra instead... thanks for the insight so far!
I have never personally dealt with Legend [they are out of my league] but you've already done the most important thing. You are dealing with a reputable dealer who works hard to build relationships with customers, and is not likely to cheat you. She wants you back.
I have two things to add to this thread. First, that 1932 is a stunning coin. Second, you can take what Mr. Feld writes to the bank.
Alright. I met with Laura earlier today. She is a nice person and explained things very well. Unfortunately she confirmed some things that I had a feeling of, and that other members had pointed out. The 1901 is definetely a 64 in a 65 holder. This comment was made about half a year ago on cointalk, even from pictures. The 1894 is nothing fancy, and I wanted to get rid of it - this one I knew was overgraded too. The 1910-D had issues also, and someone commented on this too a while back I believe (was dipped). So I got 3750.00 for the 1901, 1750.00 for the 1894 and 6000.00 for the 1910-D. I ended up picking up two coins, which are very nice: 1852 PCGS MS65 - CAC'd: 1907 No Motto PCGS MS65 - CAC'd: I am much happier with this $10. Both coins are excellent!!!
Unless it is a misprint - which is extremely unlikely - there is a $2240 sight-unseen dealer bid for NGC MS64 $10 Liberty's, just as there was when I posted to this thread previously. So $1750 is way too low. And there was and is a $4000 sight unseen bid for NGC MS65 $10 Liberty's, so $3750 is too low. For sight-unseen bids, it doesn't matter if the coins are dogs or not - the bidder is obligated to buy them at his bid. I don't understand why you weren't allowed in trade, at least (very close to) sight-unseen money for those two coins.
Just a follow-up. I talked to Laura and she admited to making a mistake on the sight unseen prices. I was paid the $740 difference. It was actually taken care of the same night / beginning of next day.
Mark, Are sight-unseen dealer bids available to collectors or only dealers? And where would a collector find current sight-unseen dealer bids?
Great story beginning to end, I really like the new coins you chose. I have bought and sold to Legend and they have always treated me really well. The coins I traded all were traded at or close to PCGS price guide which made me very happy enabling me to get the coin I really wanted.
You have to be a paid dealer member of the Certified Coin Exchange (CCE) to be able to access the bids/prices.
Mark - Have they changed the rules ? I used to buy via CCE and I never paid them a dime. And I certainly never registered as a dealer member. Admittedly, that was some years ago and it could well be different now.
I'm guessing that you're speaking of having bought from the Collector's Corner listings section of CCE? If so, that doesn't include a fee. But in order to have access to the dealer sight unseen and sight seen bid prices that I referred to, you have to be a paid subscriber: https://www.certifiedcoinexchange.com/secure/CCEOrderForm.asp
