Except being a Broncos fine is a sure sign of class ;)

I’ll admit I have no idea what is going on here. I missed the drama. Here’s a coin to make it legit (and fits my favorite team):

I guess that, as we're well into the 21st century, I have remained something of a Luddite. I don't own a cell phone, smart phone or iphone, just a dumb phone (landline), which is just about my speed (but I do own a cordless phone). I don't have a laptop that is functioning (I do have one with Windows Vista, upgraded in obscure times to Windows 7, but it's dead right now), only a PC. I don't have a Kindle, or an Alexa, or a Siri, or any other robotic/AI device, except myself (less the AI of course). I don't have a smartpad, only the pad that I have been living in for nearly 30 years, a pad, with absolute certainty that would be declared a public health threat if anyone were to step inside for less than a minute. I am not a member of Facebook, or Twitter, or any other social media company. Given my introverted nature, I might join a social media network for introverts, if one were to exist, but I doubt it does - all of its members would instantly enroll, then disenroll.

At work I had a reputation of being able to work with all sorts of folks, and I always tried to avoid office politics, with varying levels of success. So, I wonder what it would be like, if someone were to actually troll me, whatever that would be. Would the troll try to press my buttons? I think I only have one, and that's been inoperable since 1979, when, in a fit of anger in my COBOL class, I tore a nice soft leather briefcase in half, when I could not find the punch card or cards causing my program to crash. I really felt guilty doing that (part of my DNA), and to this day I miss that briefcase.

So, yes there are all sorts of folks out there, and I am afraid that our technology is in large part pushing people to do and say crazier and crazier things. But life is just too important, big, and fascinating (think coins!) in all of its aspects for me to be affected by "a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing" so, yes, the ignore button nowadays is a useful coping mechanism (psych major).

I'm worse, I guess. I actually talk to them. When there's an argument, the odd thing is that the coin always wins.

Same... punch cards for computer input TOTALLY turned me off to Computer Science during those days... my class was probly in 1978 or so. Good idea ripping a briefcase in half. I literally chucked my cards out the window!

One thing that is great about cointalk, is that it has remained as an old school chat board. This has a much better functionality for our use than for example facebook. They’ve added a like button, though. Not sure if I like that. Still, I think pics of nice coins are a more potent dopamine trigger than the likes. And that’s a condition we all suffered already..:)

I love punch cards.... well, actually, I love the fact they went away and allowed me to get a really cheap but heavy as a tank file cabinet with twenty drawers exactly the right size for my stereoview collection but also accepting half size coin trays and quite a number of other items I have accumulated. Yes, they have slots in the bottom for the adjustments so you have to put in a card/wood bottom or leave things in boxes. With trays the capacity would be about 2000 coins. It would also accept about 120 2x2x9 boxes (over 10,000 coins).

I see today these 'antiques' sell for considerably more now than they did thirty years ago when the odd size cabinets were a glut on the market and people had no idea what to do with them. This photo shows four; I only have one. Moving them is a serious problem so mine will be where it is for the duration.

Wondering how you talk to people

I don't have a landline and only theoretically have a mobile phone as all the calls I make use the internet via WhatsApp Skype Zoom or whatever, and not the phone function. I don't have a subscription to my mobile but just buy gigabytes or hook up to wifi. A phone is as relevant to me as a fax, or a morse code machine. Yet still I speak to many ppl daily

Luddites, like the Pennsylvanian Dutch communities who eschew vehicles eventually get totally left behind and it's not a course I'd recommend. One doesn't need to be cutting edge but there's a certain expectation of keeping up with basic technology advances. Of course the fact we are using CoinTalk rather than a 1980s era LISTSERV running on a Univac does show we are running fairly well in parallel

I'm pretty much limited to my landline phone and my PC. I'm retired, so this arrangement works for me. I do have lots of emails and I have a very small family, no kids, nieces or nephews, so simplicity is fine for me.

Nice! I have an old lockable three drawer file cabinet from the 1970's. It is build like a tank. It went through the flood of 1983, where I worked, and is still serving as my main file-coin storage cabinet.

Great thread. I recently put someone on "ignore" and it filters everything i couldn't care less about. One person! Great feature.

Thanks, but I'd really rather not be reminded of a 9-month old thread and disagreement with another member. The general principles may still apply, but the original dispute that inspired both the thread and my comments is ancient history, at least so far as I'm concerned.
