Hello everyone. Today i was looking thru my 2005 sac rolls and found some interesting things. I have noticed in the D mint rolls,about 20-25% have some sort of ghost or mirror image below the liberty .Most are very faint .On two examples, the images are very strong. Below each letter, u can see the bottom of each letter. on some of the letters u can see the same letter very faintly. I wish i had a scanner or digital cam. On one example , on the reverse,the four stars next to america, two are collored copper or rust. I hope u experts can help me out. thanks again. Do these carry an extra premium??? Is this a common occourance?
It may be machine doubling. There seems to be a controversy as to whether coins minted recently can have die doubling. Although I am a member of CONECA, I am not up on modern coin die varieties. If it's a shadow image, it may be surface film doubling. If the planchet has a molecule-thin coating of oil or other surface contaminant, you can see faint doubling of some design elements.
