How much differance is the value of a proof compared to uncirculated ? I buy more uncirculated than proofs, because really now days I can not really afford proofs. The reason I am asking when I sell coins in my antique shop I am confused on pricing the uncirculated
It depends on the coin. Some dates the Proof has a higher value than the Business Strike. Other dates it is vice versa. It all comes down to supply and demand. Take the 1877 Indian Head Cent - an MS-63 typically is priced higher than the PF-63 because 1) There are not many MS-63 examples (supply) and 2) Many IHC collectors need the 1877 to complete their set (demand).
There;s also bussiness strike coins with proof like mirror surfaces that are also worth more ,because of the proof like mirror like surfaces. Just to let you know that, JC
