    $700? $800?

    Try $15 :hail:

I traded 15 of my smooth rim Washington Dollar hoard for this =) I bought them all for face value at the bank, so this coin cost me $15 :)

Pretty good deal if you ask me=)

Very smart. This coin will always be worth alot more then what it was traded for.

Thanks! I had never seen one of these Buffalos before in person and I must admit, this is a GREAT looking coin....

Since the major news agencies did a piece on those smooth rim dollars I see where they now consistantly sell for in excess of $100.00 again.
Since you got them at face you spent $15 but the one you traded with if he turns then quick could buy another Buffalo and have several 100 to spare. But any trade is a good trade when both are happy!:smile

Was the Barnum's delight you traded with a dealer, a collector, or an investor? (My money is on "investor". :p )

It's a great deal even with the ebay craze. $15 for a nice piece of gold is a great deal! Just imagine if a couple hundred thousand of the golden Dollars turn up :) . On the other hand if you sold all 15 on ebay right now you might have been able to buy two.

Still a nice deal no matter how you want to slice it.

    Very Happy for you!!! :thumb:

Hope the next batch of dead president errors show up in Western PA :D

Great, great deal. At a local flea market last Sunday a guy had a roll of those dollars with smooth rims and was trying to sell them and no takers. I didn' t even ask how much since it is starting to sound like there are more of them than people think. Again, great deal.

Even though you could have gotten more if you had sold them on Ebay (damn news media screwing up my $15 price point for these in the future!) and made ~$1,500 (insane but true) and bought it for ~$800, it still only cost you $15, which... ain't... bad. When these came out, people didn't seem all that impressed, so I had low expectations when I bought my proof (on Ebay for a bit over $750). IMHO though, this is one of the nicest gold coins out there. Your pictures (as I'm sure you'll agree) don't do it justice.

Paul, that is a bargain.I can't believe that you paid just over 1/5 of the face value.US$15 is like around NZ$30.

I hope that you paid only for the bullion medal-coin,& not for the slab!

    Aidan.

Good deal. I'd have made the trade too. I'd rather have the gold, than deal with selling the GW's.

THis see, I paid $ 800.00 each in 2006 for the proofs. The book says they are worth
$ 1160.00 to $ 1325.00. Your coin is worth about $ 1742.00. ( why the uncirculated coin is worth more than a proof is beyond me). The error Washington Golden dollar is worth $ 150.00 to
$ 800.00. Say the error coins are worth about $ 180.00 comes to $ 2700.00.
From a current value stand point you have lost money. However for a fifteen dollar trade I would agree it is a good deal.

    MojaveDave:

You way overshot the GW smooth errors. I just looked on ebay and MS64 has a buy it now price of $70. Then I did a complete listing and all of the GW smooth edge coins are selling between $31.50 and $80.

So, at $50 a coin, it would have been only $750. I'd say he made a great deal!!!
