My daughters bought me the Collector's Assistant CD for father's day. They claim that it is highly recommended by collectors for cataloging coins. I've currently got my entire collection on Excel with ratings, values, quantities, mintage, point of purchase, etc. Is it worth switching to this new software? I have lots of coins that I would need to move. If you have any experience with this software, please let me know.
You've got Terrific girls there Phil. Just wanted to say that before adding....I don't have an answer to your question. :smile
I have just started using this program and I love it. I can't tell you much, but it appears you can export an excel file to a text delimited file and import it into Collector's Assistant.
Just don't dump your existing Excell worksheet until you have played around with the new software enough to know whether you want to make a permanent transition. Enter new material both places until you make a final decision.
Nice gift! I'm not familiar with it and am still using simple spreadsheets myself. I did search for collecting software a couple of months ago, and if there was anything that was "highly recommended" then I didn't see it. At least nothing jumped off the page at me as a "must have". I found a couple of spreadsheets with a lot of presets and formatting in place for different things, but in the end I rolled my own. Good luck with it and let us know how it works out. I would like to hear more about peoples' experiences with different available coin collecting software, both free and non-free.
I plan to play with it this weekend. I'm hoping that the Excel import function works. As I mentioned earlier, I have lots of coins in my spreadsheet. I'll let you know how it progresses.
