Counting straps at work today I ran into a series 2006 $20 note with the serial IE 44444462 C. The note is in great AU if not CU condition. Do you all think it would command a premium?

neat serial, but probably not worth anything over face since it is already worth $20

I agree it's neat but not quite worth a premium.

My experience says it might be worth a premium if it were a palindrome or consecutive numbers or all the same number and possibly alternating between two numbers.

    Whats a palindrome?

when it can be read backwards the same as forwards like "mom" "dad" or a serial number of let's say 15000051.

Usually called a "radar" note, because "radar" is the same backwards and forwards.

I just learned this palindrome yesterday, stressed is desserts in reverse! Hence, eating cake reverses the effects of stress.

There's a nifty little illustrated book called, Madam, I'm Adam and Other Palindromes. written by William Irvine, 1987 that's a treasure of palindromes.

Found a Radar tonight actually. A33577533A. Series 2006. Probably in very fine. Pretty excited about it, it's been a while. Now if I can only find four leading zero's some time.

congrats mrak! i have only ever found a single radar in circulation. they are not all that common, although looking at Numbers calculations, they are more common then i would think lol

    Still an excting find :thumb:

Thanks Daggarjon. This is my second in about 4months of searching (about 8,500 worth). I recall seeing Number's odds a little while ago. Forget the exact calculations for radars, maybe 1/10000. If so looks like I'm slightly ahead of pace......which just means I may be in for a loooong run dry assuming everything eventually averages out :desk:

yup, i am a member over here as well :)
if the note is in uncirculated condition it may sell for a bit more than face, $25-$30, six in a row #'s are what i call semi-fancy. for me the seven in a row is the next best thing when one cannot buy a solid 44444444's, but some people do buy the six of a kind when they are in a ron. if it were 444448646, i would say spend, but if you like it.... and it only cost you face.....KEEP IT :)
not worth selling on oybay since the fees of both oybay and paypal (oypal, since it is also owned by oybay) would eat up ANY small profit you might see fromit's sale there.
I hope this is of some help,
    Lew
    P.S.
thanks for the nod dursin! ;)

I've only found one radar but find 4 leading zeros all of the time. Well I say all of the time but counting mine right now that I've saved I have 9 with 4 leading zeros and 4 of those are stars. I also have a 00000777 and I did find a $100 with 5 leading zeros but couldn't buy it.

Is it a radar if the letters at the front and back aren't the same? I have a $5 that is HF 24122142 B is that considered a radar?
