My grandmother got it for me a long time ago It's also paper toned, a beautiful black It was in g condition when it was polished, and now Jefferson's face is shiny and flat. Back on topic, you see in the picture a blob due East to "UNUM" and it extends from the rim to Monticello, and then across Monticello in the form of a hairline. There is another hairline perpendiculat to this one onthe other side of Monticello. What's your guess to the funny mark? Is it just a die crack? IS the coin worth anything (Probobly not, it's VERY polished)
Looks like a large die crack ,where possibly the edges have chipped away,, Im afraid that even if the error added any value ,, the polishing has all but rendered the coin to being a keep sake from your Grandmother !! Rick
lamination, not a die crack A die crack is a raised(with a drop on each side) straight line pointing to the center, usually. This is a ragged edge, kinda flaky, and more of a "cliff" edge than a raised line.
