Hey, @Marites Foertsch During WW II, there was a need for copper for shell casings, so the United States decided to make the sheets of metal for cent coins from steel which was coated with zinc (to prevent rust and make striking easier) All 1943 cents (with some exceptional exceptions) were made of this material, look kind of silvery when new, and are attracted to magnets.
