While neither a coin nor ancient, however it is one big chunk of a copper portraying the She-wolf. Made by the Unione Italiana Di Riassicurazione, a reinsurance company. Weighing at 55 grams, this hefty medal dwarfs my actual coin from the Constantine era! I'm pretty sure the imagery would've been copied from an actual coin, so do any of you guys know the original 'copy'?
A lot of these are stylized designs by modern artists giving tribute to the ancients . . . This is Ron Landis' interpretation. 43 grams Ag. Z I think Minerva looks a LOT like Owen Wilson on this strike . . .
Thanks for mentionning my example Brian Republic, Didrachm- Rome mint c. 269-266 BC No legend, Diademed head of young Hercules right, with club and lion's skin over shoulder ROMANO, She wolf right, suckling Romulus and Remus 7.29 gr Ref : RCV # 24, RSC # 8 Q
It is one of my favorite coins. I regret I do not have one. However, just enjoying yours is great for me!
Fantastic Didrachm! I love how the style of very early Roman coinage is virtually indistinguishable from 4th-3rd cent. mainland Italian/Magna Graecia coinage (at least to someone who doesn't collect them--yet!).
