I have bought a lot of wheat pennies off of Ebay .. not the best move but using the lower number from the price guide, I have never lost money. There are 2 people who sell the best wheat pennies that I know of from buying from them ... the one tells you what is on either end (a lot of them have an indian head on one or both sides) and the other sells the shot gun rolls. I do not want to put names in here as I do not think that is the right thing to do. I now have over 6,000 wheat pennies and none of the MAIN KEY dates .. several 1909, 1909vdb, a great 1910s, a 1912s, a 1924d .. and the rest are the lesser coins. If you buy from the wrong guy on Ebay you may get all 1940's and 1950's. I hope this helps
If they are good, why not post the sellers names... I'd like to see why you think they are great sellers, and now you have 6000 wheats, and no key dates... I've just seen the same junk over and over and over..
I am only saying that they are good/great or whatever as they do not send you all 1940's and 1950's. That is all. Their rolls are mixed pretty well .. and yes I always thought I would get a key date that was worth more but I did not. I never LOST money on a roll I bought from the few people that I bought from ..and the rolls that they sold had better coins .. the one guy usually has 2,3 or 4 indian heads in his rolls .. and the one even has mercury dimes mixed in the rolls ...as many as 4 in a roll. I did not list them as I do not think that I should just put it out there for everyone as to who these people are ... IF you REALLY want to know who they are I would be happy to tell you, but I just do not want to broadcast their name to everyone. I would never get a good deal again ... LOL. I may not buy anymore wheats though ... I have moved on to some other items that I am stocking up on at this time. Thanks for taking the time to write to me. Barry
Please understand Barry, that most sellers, just throw in mercury dimes, and seated dimes, as a fluke, to get customers to keep coming back, so now you have a few silver dimes, some indians, and a ton of wheats to show for it. I used to be the biggest buyer of those kind of lots, but I've stopped, and started saving for coins, in which I know what I'm getting.
I understand that... and I enjoyed them at the time. As I said I am not buying anymore now. Someone asked originally about wheat pennies on Ebay and that is what the first post was in reference to. Take care ... good luck .. and great collecting!!!
Well, I believe my source to be honest. I bought 4 rolls on eBay from a local guy here in Las Vegas so I could fore go the shipping. I found coins from 1912-1958. I also found 3 1943 steel pennies, and two Indian heads(1902 & 1903). None of the major key dates. I do have 4 1944's, but at the time I went through them I was unaware of the D/S varieties, so I'll have to back and check them again. Actually, I need to go back through them and check crosscheck them against the Cherrypicker's list at the bottom of this page.
