Here's a doubled Washingtom dollar, but the doubling is on the edge of the coin . I thought this would be different to post. I don't know how many of you know about this doubling on the edges of the Washington dollar coin.I don't think this is considered hub doubling is it?

What do you think hub or not hub doubling that is the question?

You are confusing terms, many of them.

What you have is a coin that went through the edge letting machine twice. The edge lettering die was not doubled. And the hub for the edge lettering was not doubled.

I don't think i'm confusing anything just asking a question to see what other opinions and answers would be ,OK that's your answer.Well i shouldn't of used doubled die your right .

Well it is considered an error don't you think and different?

Sorry. I didn't mean to offend you if I did.

Does my answer make sense? The coin went through the edge lettering machine twice. That would account for the "doubling" of the edge lettering, not a doubled edge lettering die.

I guess it would be how you defined error. :) I would love to find one of these. The only thing I can find is the occasion arizona extra cactus(3 so far).

I would call this an error and I think it would be a cool error coin to have.

The coin was only supposed to go through the "Edge Lettering" Machine once! Therefore, if the coin is run through twice resulting in doubled (per say) Edge Lettering, then it is an error. It is hard to say what the value is right now as many of the older Presidential Dollars with errors have dropped off in value but they may rebound some time down the road. I still have some of the Washington Dollars with extra Letters scattered in between the other Edge Lettering.

It is an error. Happened with the Adams Dollar as well. Now here is something that probably most here don't know. There are two different fonts that were used on the edges of the dollars. Some of the double edge Adams actually had both fonts on the same coin going in different directions. One of my all time favorite coins. Some here know why. : )

There are two type of cactus errors. One on over the date and one over the designer initials. Here is the one over the initials. I just posted a thread with this picture
