Well, that the date is about the only discernible marking on the coin is also a red flag to me. As well as a seller not bothering to have a $500+ coin certified . . . crazy.

there is 2 set of rules small seller & Power Sellers

I know one thing for sure if I had post a grade it would have to be graded buy Pcgs Ngc Icg or Anacs,Ebay would shut it down!
but Power seller seam to get away with posting a raw coins grade as a graded coin:hammer:. I seen too many times

It's like taking a graver a tool that engravers use , and fraudulently improving the weak parts of a coin , in this case reworking the date by removing metal or in some cases changing a MM from one to another ,:thumb: JMO

Wow... $1325 and climbing. That is shear madness!

The date was retooled , in this coins case the metal around the date looks removed or punched in , notice how much lower the metal around the date looks then the rest of the coin , this is done by either removing metal with a graver tool , or punching it down with a punch . then he evens it out as much as he can by light sanding , and then making it look uniform by some means like burying it or something .:crying:

Well - I did not check the feedback, since I don't plan on bidding. And at $1325 I feel sorry for who ever wins. Granted a rare key date, but still not worth it in my opinion.

It sure is a raw coin looking like a counterfeit ?

I like modern coinage so much better than that metal detecting coinage in that auction. I found a super nice looking Florian that was stunning(A dealer from another country had it listed on his site). But after closely examining it, it appeared counterfeit. The field on the obverse was heavily scratched up(with very light scratches). Yet the reverse had a prooflike field with no scratches. I contacted the seller by email about my concerns that it was counterfeit. He sent me an email stating that i was pretty bold in questioning his coin. I still feel it was a fake. The strike & luster seemed a little too perfect to me also.

    I didn't report to anyone, did U?

Did anyone notify the seller or notify Ebay that the coin has an obviously alterred/re-tooled date? It has 25 bids & is up to $1,500.

    Very best regards,

Well eBay is just in it for the money, making a little money on one purchase, is more important to them than doing business with that buyer/seller combo, which means more sales, over and over again

for those of you who are either Ebay sellers or buyers, which I am neither, you should contact the Secret Service and report that listing as a Forgery.Ebay will do nothing as it seems.

    little overkill

My luck I would report it to the Secret Service and IRS would show up and do an audit

I agree with you all about the date of this coin. I just think that also computer do alot for the seller these days on Ebay. Alot of time people will not see the actual coin itself, but the dream of picking up a coin that the seller saying what it is worth. Also sometime the image of the coin is not what you get when you pay for the coin. Does this mean frault or what when the seller doesn't let you know what it really looks like in person ?

The seller claims to be a member of ANA, if so, he knows what he is selling has been tampered with. Whether he is the one who retooled the coin, we will probably never know. As far as the S.S. or F.B.I. or I.R.S. I'm sure the coin is real, but has just been enhanced, not a whole lot different than dipping or whizzing, but not conterfeit. So i'm sure they would not get involved, nor will eBay. I only wish there was a way we could slap the bidders on the side of their heads!!!

Well, if the bidders don't know a good coin when they see one, and can't tell an original date from on that isn't, maybe they should learn the hard way, if they have all that money to burn, might as well learn the hard way, because obviously they didn't do their research before they bought the coin!
