I ask if the coin is cleaned or old cleaned? In the prices of PCGS the coin worth for ms 55 , is 70 USD. Here is the link to PCGS: http://www.pcgs.com/prices/PriceGuideDetail.aspx?MS=1&PR=1&c=702&title=Barber+Dime Thank you in advanced.
Very nice details esp on rev.........however it is very bright and lacks any patina or toning I would think cleaned..Eddie in Memphis
It's a bit hard to tell much from the photos. Personally it looks to have rub so I would consider it AU at best, it is blast white and unlikely an original skin. I does look a bit cleaned from the photos but may look different in hand.
The coin has been cleaned and rather harshly at that IMO. The grade is around XF/AU, but the gouges in the neck and the scratches all over the reverse will lower the overall grade. The coin in XF/AU should be about $40 but I wouldn't give over $20 for this example.
I agree with BQ- coin is bright white from cleaning/dipping and has dings in prime focal areas. I know I would not be happy with it at any price. For an example of one with a more original look, check this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/1901-Barber-Dim...66:2|39:1|72:1205|240:1318|301:0|293:2|294:50 I'm not saying I like it, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't been messed with.
Coin has been cleaned at some point, and seller is trying to hide something with the pics, of the reverse. The angle isn't right, and the luster on the sides doesn't look right either I'd say an AU coin, but I wouldn't pay anything over $25. Another thing, don't count on PCGS for everything, you will just end up overpaying, remember those are retail prices. I use a combination, of looking at PCGS, Numismedia, and the ebay completed listings
