1829/27 50c. 1859 25c. 1893 25C. I'd like to get opinions as what grades would you give these coins, they are my 3 favorites and have had them for many yrs. Thanks for any opinions.
Get the quarters in slabs...I have seen few UNC Barbers...A guy I know had what we both thought was a BU (MS60-61) 1893 Barber quarter...sent it to ANACS...and it came back cleaned...dipped...rats. Speedy
Ok...here goes my grading... The half looks to be F/VF the dark part around the stars lowers it some for me... The 1859 quarter looks to be AU/MS60...there seems to be some hairlines on the back. The 1893 Quarter looks to be better like MS61... This is just a guess...I'm still learning grading as I will for the rest of my collecting days. Speedy
Yah, a photo is not as having it in hand. Picture was taken thru a plastic holder. Could'nt get the 50c. piece to look as is, altho the rev. came out well.
1829/27 50c - I'm gonna say VF on this one. It has nice even wear, but I think the coin has been cleaned. 1859 25c - This one is high XF in my opinion. It might just be the pic, but the lines on Liberty's shield appear to show some wear as does the cap. If the lines on the shield are there when viewed in person then I would say AU. 1893 25C - If not for what appears to be a somewhat weak strike, especially on the reverse this one would go MS64 IMO - but I gotta say MS63. Nice coins
1829/27 XF-AU Would have to see it to tell if cleaned. Nice Coin! 1859 AU50-AU55 Nice Coin! 1893 MS60-MS62 Nice Coin! Really would have to see these in person. That is why I gave a range. Unfortunatly, WAY to many bust halves were cleaned back in the day. Many bust halves were cleaned more than 50 years ago. White original bust halves are very rare, Speedy. Original toning does not affect the price or grade.
If your talking about the Bust Half I don't call that original toning---its nots BU...and I have seen many circulated coins that have this kind of toning--- Speedy
..."the dark part around the stars lowers it some for me...." is what I meant when I said original toning does not affect the price or grade of bust halves. The pic of this bust half is not good enough to say for sure whether it has or has not been cleaned. I would agree that it appears that it may have been cleaned a long time ago.
