Tough call in that condition. I'd probably keep the $1 because it's only a buck, but for me, the $50 would be a spender.
i would have to agree with dursin. besides the age of the note there isnt anything special about it. doesnt really carry a premium. i would use it to buy some other notes still nice pickups

Wow, that would be a big revision. I have the 7th edition of the book and it has the range at G12 384 001A through G16 560 000A with 4,176,000 printed and a ChCU price of $100 which would leave a note in Fine or less condition near face. That printed total also agrees with the Comprehensive Catalog of US Paper Money 8th edition. Don't see how that number could have been revised down by over 3 million. If you want a saver spend the $50.00 and buy a nice morgan or something that might appreciate at a higher rate
Arggh....sorry RickieB, I didn't see your edit or I wouldn't have posted that. Was actually worried that there was a big revision to the only copy I have of that book. Almost went looking for the 8th edition of that book! Now, that said, I just looked at the numbers for a 1950B since I was curious if the serial number overlapped like that and they didn't match either...in fact, they're very close to the 1950D numbers for Chicago. 4,320,000 printed in the range of G06336001A through G10656000A. So, still wondering if I need a new book! You are definitely right about one thing though...getting old blows, especially when it comes to the eyes. I recently bought that 1928C $5 mule star note and couldn't read the back plate number on it. Handed to my oldest son so he could tell me what the number was and then I immediately went out to eBay and bought a loupe!

I would certainly keep the $1. as for the $50.. i would want to keep it if at all possible. i understand $50 is alot of money to to up in a note that may not be worth very much, but i would try to keep it. Why? Its old, i dont have any inmy collection... AND a percieved climb in value is not the biggest reason why i collect I like having 'things'.. just to have them.. not just because they are or ever will be worth more in the future Good luck
Hmmm, well I'm going to say the exact opposite of everybody Spend the $1 bill, and keep the $50 bill, if I can read that correctly it says 1950 D, which sounds like a keeper to me It is a cool looking bill, might not look like brand new, but it is a nice find, and a rather old note, very cool!
