I picked this coin in January at the FUN show. My question to you guys are weather or not its worth it to send in for slabbing, my grade on this coin would be about a 10-12 range. This is where its tricky, here is the price spread that PCGS gives this date. BTW i picked this out of a bag for $7 so don't hate me :smile G04 - $45 G06 - $50 VG08 - $75 VG10 - $100 F12 - $350 F15 - $450 I know these prices are slightly inflated slightly but its the best I can do for now. But there is a HUGE jump from VG10 to F12. What do you guys grade it and would it be worth it at your grading? -Josh
awesome deal. if it was mine, i would probably slab it if i was going to sell it, but if i was going to keep it for my collection i would put it in an airtite. and i'd grade it at vg-8/10
It's a strong VG-10 even if it did get slabbed as a 12 it is no better than a 10 and you did great for $7.
nice find I've been looking at 1904-S halves in the $35 to $45 range. Many of them are not as nice as yours.
F-12 would be a stretch, LIBERTY isn't bold enough, and not completely clear A VG10 sounds alright to me, and I think if you got it for $7, whether you are selling or keeping, I'd have it graded, just me... If it was just another common dated one, I'd say pass
My opinion is no longer necessary, given the overwhelming consistency of the prior opinions, but this is a VG-8/10 coin (I'd give it a 10 if it were mine), so there's no need to worry about the huge F-12 price jump. Don't have it graded. Enjoy your bargain the way it is.
[Sniffs out thread about Barbers.] T$: Liberty does not have to be bold, it has to be bold for VF. As for this piece, by strict definition, yes, it is a F-12. I have seen worse in slabs as F-12. Great buy! Ya done good.
$7? What a find! I'd keep it out of plastic, at least for now, and enjoy it up close. As to grading- I just don't think it quite makes Fine using ANA standards. Very high VG imo.
Everybody's opinion is welcome here, as long as it's offered nicely. I graded it a VG-10 myself (I merely said VG) but honestly, there are a couple of opinions here that I will accept above what I think and cause me to reconsider. Frank (below) is one of them. He knows Barbers. If he says it's a F, even after all of us have said VG, I believe that it is a F.
Mike and Frank sitting in a tree... ?? LOL!!! I guess so Frank, you know what you are talking about in this series
well, since you asked... today, June 14, 2009 is my 23rd wedding anniversary! We are still in love, have 3 children, and are very, very happy. I only wish everyone else finds love like I did. It's magical.
Glad to hear it... (And all men everywhere, can breathe easy, you REMEMBERED your anniversary.. LOL!) Congrats, and many more years to come of that marriage
