In the past, i would go to the bank up to 3 times a week to buy $200 in $1 notes. I would average close to 2.x star notes per trip. Some weeks would net me 3, others 1, but moslty i could almost count on 2.

then i took a 6 month break because of a busy schedule

    what a mistake!

the last couple weeks, i have gone to the bank 4 times i believe. Thats $800. Now with the past average in mind, i should have netted close to 8-10 star notes. anyone care to guess how many i found?

has anyone else noticed a deep decline int he number of star notes in circulation? Is this because they are printing less stars? It doesnt look like a large drop when looking at the schedules of notes printed.... but they can also be decieving.

Is anyone having a surplus of stars found ... and if so.. what area of the country do you live?

if anyone is hitting the TCF banks, BOA banks, OC Credit union banks, Huntington banks and First Banks here in Waterford, Michigan....

    STOP :D ...

im getting lonely without my stars :p

on a side note... today i did find a 1993 chico note G20732787F in XF. sure nothign special, but i will keep it anyway lol I also found a 2003 Inndy note I77766555A in VG. I just love the serial, and will keep that one to.

I still see stars every now and then, but...well, I think you know the rest of the story there. Lets just say that you have a chance at getting one of the star notes I've seen back in change someday. ;)

Only have one star (non-collection) now that I'm on a little on the fence on....a 2004 $20 with sn# EJ00226602* it's probably in XF cond and I sorta like the serial number so I'll likely keep that one for now.

    Hi Daggarjon,
I've only been doing something similar for the past 3 months. In that time I've gone through $7.8K. My average has worked out to be 1 star for every 300 dollars. I'm in the SF bay area and use different bofa & wells fargo banks.

As a curios side note, for a while there i was seeing a good number of crisp pre-1995 1's, but in the last month that seems to have largely dried up.

When you guys get a couple hundred in singles from the bank, what do you do with all the ones you don't keep? Spend them painfully here and there? Or do you deposit them back at the bank (I'd fear a nasty glare if I did that)?

of all the banks i have accounts with, i utilize half as 'buy' banks and the other half as 'sell' banks. This is to ensure that i dont buy the same notes i sold the day before.

so i start my day buy selling at 1 bank, and then going 5 minutes up the road to a 'buy' bank and buy the next batch of $200. I can sort through a ton of notes through the week/month, but it only ever costs me $200 at a time.

Yes, there are times the 'sell' bank teller will glare at me, but if my routine is consistant, they expect the $1's and then dont buy any from the reserve if they need $1's - they know im coming in with some lol same thing with my 'buy' banks. if my shcedule is consitant, they order extra to handle my buying.

i do know tellers where i will bypass them at all costs because of a perceieved additude i get when i visit their window... but i dont see them too often since i figured out their schedules :D

I was wondering the same thing Dave M. I've never seen a star in person, ever. But, maybe I'll have to try the $100 thingy...

Ah, makes sense! I only use one bank, but I guess if I started this scheme, it would make sense to have at least one more bank involved.

i have yet to pull a single 2006 star out of circulation :( I might need to up my bank visit from once to twice next week ... slowly get back into the swing of things :) but also increase my chances for a star or two :D

I recommend amping up the quantity that you search. Lately I've searched through 1,000 singles at a time. This gives me much better yields than just going through 1-200 bills. What I do to get so many is I just go to 2 different banks. You could get 1,000(or more) from one bank but I've found that it's easier for the tellers to get me smaller batches, such as 500 at one time. Also, when buying in large quantities it is best to go to banks that you have an account with. Wells Fargo would almost never ask me if I had an account when I used to buy one or two straps but they started after I increased the amounts that I wanted.

Then you can bring back what you don't want, it usually just takes seconds for the tellers to run the bills through the counter and then you are on your way in just a few minutes.

I have accounts at all banks i use for my buying/selling. None of the banks around me would sell to me unless i had an account, and none would buy fromme for the same reason. I found it much easier to just open accounts, and keep just above the bare minimum in each - just to say yes i have an account :)

I wish i could buy more then the $200 :D i really do lol. But my budget is just to small to withstand such a bankroll tied up for that purpose.

i have learned long ago, that i cannot go to the banks i frequent on the weeks i get paid. The campus i work on employs over 4500 folks. So when 4500 people get paid, it doesnt matter what bank you go to there is a long line.

So, forgetting the wisdom i learned long ago .. i went to the bank today to get new bundles of $1's. Yes, there were lines at both the by and the sell banks, but i managed to get through them pretty quick.

Not all was wasted today though! I did find 2 star notes.
2003A E00150777* in XF and my very first
    2006-FW L04569725* in vg

both have 6.4 million printed, with the 2006 having the chance of more. So, neither are rare in any sense, but im still excited to get my 1st 2006 star :D

This is what im saying ...

maybe there are too many folks plucking stars from circulation? Or maybe the BEP has gotten the process of printing notes down so well, they dont have to issue nearly as many stars to cover damaged notes??

Good luck next week! Let us know how well you do!!

Seems to be a thing with the 2003A's. Found 2 today in a $100 bundle. Both from Atlanta and probably in XF condition.
