I need help determining the value of these paper notes, please. I hope these pictures will be enough to go on since I don't really know much else about them. I *assume* this is Japanese, pardon me if I'm wrong though. http://members.aol.com/Babypixiestick/images/front.jpg http://members.aol.com/Babypixiestick/images/back.jpg And also this Canadian note. The date says January 2nd 1900. I'm sorry if it is hard to see! http://members.aol.com/Babypixiestick/images/canadian.jpg http://members.aol.com/Babypixiestick/images/canadianback.jpg Thank you!
Hi, Getting kind of late, so I didn't research any values, but I do enjoy researching banknotes. Those are very interesting, and your first one is not a Japanese issue, but don't let that bother you, it's a common mistake. Good post. Keeps the old brain cells active.
Hi, and welcome to the forum. I don't know what Jody's problem is with your Japanese 5 Yen, which has the same legends and overall appearance as the "Otsugoo" Military note of the "China Japanese Incident"' (better known in the U.S. as World War II ), shown in the JNDA catalog as #13-26, initially issued in 1938. It should measure 76x132mm (~3"x5-3/16"). IMHO yours doesn't quite come up to the condition required for the ¥300 (~US$2.70) lowest grade priced in the 2005 catalog, so sad to say I put its retail value at only $1-2. What I don't know about Canadian currency has undoubtedly filled several very thick books, so I'll let someone else talk about that note.
Well, it's my turn to eat a little crow. I was looking at very similar note from China and got confused. Roy is absolutely right. The OP's note is catalog #P-39a, 5 Yen (1930). It is indeed a Japanese note. Sorry for the confusion.
This is a Dominion of Canada note, Charlton catalogue no. DC-15c. Catalogue value from the 2005 guide: G $8, VF $12, F $16, VF $40, EF $125, AU $250, UNC $500.
The Canadian 25c. note is also known as a 'shinplaster',due to its small size.Surprisingly I do not have one of these notes yet. Aidan.
