My dad has several pennies he collected that have the "of" missing on some or very weak on others.

I cant remember the exact date, I believe it was in the late 70's. New pennies had come out and he got one in some change and noticed the error, he went to the bank and got several rolls and found more like the one he had found, he placed them all in a plastic roll so they are in mint condition. I will get a picture of one soon to see what you think.

Has anyone heard of this error before?

    Thanks

    Yes...please post a photo.
    .

Just putting the coin in a roll doesn't make them Mint Condition...they must not have any ware of any kind on them...

He was careful not to touch the coins.......that is what I meant by mint condtion....they have not been out of roll since he found them.....I will get the pictures as soon a possible.

I'm new at this and have some coins to post after learning how. The pics will help me but I have some cents that are weak or missing the O in Of dated 1987 I think , but will check again and since most are circulated and from rolls or personal or family hoards could be from wear but some seem to be from maybe die polishing/abrasion.

These sound like they are filled die errors.

Due a design flaw, this part of the reverse design often strikes up poorly.
