Silver question

I'm interested in picking up some silver for the sake of having some silver, not as a numismatic investment. I see a lot of one ounce silver bars for sale with many different designs on them. Are these legitimate bullion? There seems to be less mark-up on them compared to buying silver eagles. Is there a catch?
    Thanks,
    Ryan

silver eagles have a premium on them added by the mint, if you just wanted silver for silvers sake purchase the largest bar you can afford. The dealers i go to give discounts on the size of the bar, for example they may charge .25 over spot on a 100 ounce bar but .50 over spot for a 1 ounce bar.

    Wrong question Ryan!

What you really want to know about silver rounds/bars when all you want is bullion is whether the issuer is legitimate.

If it comes from an established, reputable firm like, for example, the Franklin Mint, or the Pobjoy Mint, you can be comfortable with the molded-in designation of weight and fineness. ;)

On the other hand, if it comes from Scammers Haven It's Terrible, buyer beware, be very aware.
