    I'm still thinking S-3.

Hey thanks you guys. Idhair, no, I never saw those links, thanks. And Mark, please, no offense taken, it's carefully coming out of the flip for the next series of pics. We'll make an effort at doing it right this time around. Just give me a few, guys. And thanks for hanging in there on this one.

OK, here are some more photos. These are out of the flip and at different lighting settings. Some may be cropped a little out of proportion. That's not deliberative but just one of the accepted hazards when I play photography studio.

And last but not least here are a few going to the RPD issue.

Yeah - but are any of those pictures showing the real color of the coin? All of them seem to show the wood grain effect - but I am not seeing the luster. It could just be me and my old eyes.

Mark the top one I'd say is the closest to the actual color. My light settings for the top two were Tungsten and Fluorescent respectively and for the bottom two I just manually set the White Balance. The top two were taken under an overhead desk lamp and the bottom two were taken just under ceiling lighting. My main concern was just getting the whole coin in focus in the head-on shots. It'll sparkle like a diamond under the light but I'd have to angle the shot to capture that.

I would still say 69/69, but I am not certain on the Snow number anymore. I just can't see enough of the under numbers.

It's an S-3 1869/69 though the overdate is obscured due to the bold woodgrain toning. Here are a couple of my S-3's in high grade for comparison sake. The S-3 is the most popular and sought after of all the varieties.

Let me add another thought, that even if this is an 1869/69, if you were to sell it, you would not get as much of a premium for the overdate because it is so obscured, nor should you pay much extra if you were the buyer. People looking for this overdate will not want to pay what a usual 69/69 overdate would cost if they can't see the overdate.

    Charmy,

Is it just the lighting on the MS66 coin on the "8" or it it doubled also? Sure looks like it might be.

Had to break out the coin and loupe it closely, and no, I can't see doubling on the "8" - it must be the light reflecting on it.

    Charmy,
It rocks my world, I so love to see you post here with authorative knowledge and experience, it blows away all rules of " girl" coin collectors and the stigma you must have had to fight for years to gain the respect that you so much deserve.

I bought you out of a cpl dates at the Phoenix ANA in 2006 ( or 07') and walked away saying to myslf, Damn, that Lady knows her copper. getting to know you was a bonus and a pretty cool thing. The ' kids" , Magman and Snaz were like rockstar groupies with a backstage pass after meeting you and Rick.

You guys, this gal truly rocks and you should make every effort to meet her at shows and chat with her. The amount of knowledge she will share will not suprise me, but it may just suprise you. I am her biggest fan.

    EDIT:
I am so very priveledged to call her a coin buddy, a drinking partner, a poker friend and all that it entails. Rick and Charmy have both made me feel so welcome in the trade, and I am lucky enough to call them mentors, and good ones at that. This is not an A$$ kissing thread, just a thank you for accepting me.

    Nuff said.

I have been married for 40 years (this month). I forgot how to flirt, but you can copy and paste those to your heart's content.

    RLM is a wildman
I once watched him drink a half glass of red wine at Rock Bottom with dinner. If only I were so crazy and unpredictable.;)

i think he would wear out the kids, Mag and Snaz could not keep up with such a party animal.
