OK, I know I said I was done with this thread...but I feel I need to set something straight. Feel free to slam me as much as you want because you won't get another response from me on this topic.

I feel that the US Mint is a giant government run group that is constantly making mistakes. I have ordered from them in the past and it has gotten messed up many times. In the end, I seem to end up paying more than I should have. They are generating a huge profit from these coins. If for once they made a small mistake to benefit me I would probably just take it.

Now, that said...was contacting them to right thing to do. Sure, and the OP should feel like he did the right thing. But, it's not a huge issue in my eyes. Would I have contacted them...probably not, and I wouldn't have lost sleep over it.

There is nothing wrong with expressing your own views here and I never said it was (someone seemed to think that). My personal views are it isn't a big enough mistake to worry about.

The reason I even said anything is as soon as this was posted people started getting all over the OP about it. It is clear the originally the OP was celebrating that he got more rolls than he bought based on this quote:

When I read this thread I knew what was coming so I chose to stand up for the OP. I have been crucified on this forum before for "ethical dilemmas" and it is somewhat of a pet peeve of mine. I find it very irritating when the forum gangs up on a member over a minor ethical issue and I felt the need to stand up for him. Now, this wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be because the OP decided he should return them and everyone was happy. But, like I said, I have seen people get torn apart about this kind of stuff (including myself) and I find it irritating.

Now, that is what I feel and what I think about this topic. If you choose to think I am unethical or immoral or whatever else...that's fine. You can feel that way all you want. Now, I am truly done with this thread and you won't here another peep out of me about this topic. :thumb:

If I'm there I'd take em' back...
But I eat food, the LP1's are not edible...
And most of the time I check my order when I get home... And most of the time they get the order wrong, and give me one burger instead of two.. lol

If you believe in the whole karma thing, then you may want to at least call and try to return them, otherwise keep em. You have to live with yourself and your actions, not what a bunch of other people tell you or believe. Just remember though, if you ever get asked a question about stealing anything, how would you answer? And to take it further, what if you are hooked up to a lie detector for the purposes of a security clearance investigation or something like that, then how do you answer? Again, each of us must live with ourselves and our own actions. Good luck and I hope you get a mint selling them on feebay.....

    TRUE STORY

When the UHR was released I ordered during first hour.
People that bought on day 2 and 3 got their orders before the people that placed orders during first hour....thus blowing the Mints FIFO policy.
    I was lucky and got 2 MS70's.
The first MS70's on Ebay went for $2800-$3000 each (day 2 and 3 orders)
My 2 sold for $2300 each 2 weeks later and I ordered during first hour !!!

The Mint made the mistake.....do they owe me $500+ for their screw up ?

    STORY #2
This week the Mint sent me my Proof sets...they were pitiful. I sent them back and have to eat the cost.

The Mint made a mistake....do they owe me $10 for shipping back coins that should not have been shipped ??

To answer the question above...they expect you to ship them at your cost. You place the shipping receipt inside the box and suposedly they will reimburse you for it. Something doesnt seem right about that but what the hell Im happy with my 2 extra LP1's even at $8.95

I'd be too, they are still selling for $50+

I'm glad you believe that it was the right thing to do. That's all I was talking about. I'm not going to slam you because you said you wouldn't; we all have to look at ourselves in the mirror so your choices are you own.

I will point out however, that I wasn't "getting all over Manny." I posed questions meant to make him think about it. Go back and read it. I just wanted to speak out for what I believed was right. Manny's decision was his own and I didn't label him in any way. It was an exchange of ideas. To be truthful, the only posts I thought were aggressive were some of yours. Exchanging ideas is a good thing. Manny made his own decision another good thing. Now, even if it doesn't come out peachy, he can look at himself in the mirror knowing that he did what was best for him.

    Cheers.

i had one problem with the mint since 1984. that was 2007. they send me 30 set of 2007 clad proof set with water damage. some coins were frosted. boxes with wet & unreadable print. all boxes were once opened. might be returned by others. i called mint and they allow me to return them. but i choose to keep it. because no more stock for replacement. only 2008 available. i can change it to 2008. i refused it. but that was the beginning of 2008 proof set offering. who knows 2008 become the lowest mintage since 60's. i should have all 30 brand new and lowest mintage 2008 clad proof set. and the sad thing is. i did not buy any 2008 clad proof set because i am so angry.

Has actually happened to me. I brought it to their attention and they told me to just eep them. So I ate them.

I do things like that all the time, complain at the store that they rang things up at too low a price, or they gave me back too much change, once at the bank when they credited my account with $50 more than I actually deposited, etc. I tell them I have a terrible character flaw, I'm honest.

Bobbeth - i totally agree with you. It's called karma. I would contact the US Mint and inform them of the error. Honesty is the best policy - always.
