Hi, I've been lurking for quite a while, this is my first post For a quick introduction, I don't have deep pockets but I have been buying products from the US mint since 1969, I completed my VF and better lincoln cents. I have a pretty much complete 19 and 20th century minor coinage type set. all the modern commemoratives. and I am missing about 6 classic commemoratives (all the classics are in PCGS holders) So, that is pretty much about me. and I am LIVID

I have rarely been so angry as I am at the mint right now.

I ordered the UHR double eagle in April. the status showed in stock and reserved. a couple days after I ordered the coin my credit card was compromised. a new card was issued and I immediatly called the mint and gave them my new number. Today, weeks later I logged into the mint site expecting to see the coin still "in stock" Instead, I saw that my order was canceled. I called the mint and they said there was nothing I could do except to reorder at the higher price. She would not let me talk to a supervisor, would not give a last name or employee number. she said I was out of luck. I was respectful, but wished I could reach through the phone to choke her.

I will be writing all the coin magazines. I will write my congressman about the shoddy business practices of the US Mint. I don't expect it to do any good, but it is all I can do.

If anyone has favorite practices of the mint that would not be allowed by private businesses. please forward them. I will gladly enclude them in my letter to my congressman.

    Thanks.
    Dave

First off, Welcome to this great forum Dave....glad to have you.

Secondly, that really sucks. I would be pushing it too. You ordered at the price and should be able to keep that price. Good luck, and let us know how it goes...

The US MINT SUCKS! What are you gonna do???
They can't ship things on time (Pitney Bowes) and can't do things right!
I'm sorry to hear about your experience, and I bet you could buy one off of ebay or somewhere else, maybe cheaper, and if you wanted it graded, just buy one pregraded.
    Welcome to cointalk :)

Dave, sorry to hear of your aggrevation. I know how you are feeling and am feeling quite angry for you right now. I can only imagine your frustration with the customer service rep. They are hit or miss as whether or not you get a decent one. I got into an arguement with one last year. She told me that she was putting my name on a list of people who were trouble makers! I was furious! A couple of days later I called back and spoke to someone else and explained the situation. THey were shocked that this rep even said that to me. They assured me that there was no "list" and I had nothing to worry about. I would try to call back later on and talk to someone else. It won't hurt anything. Save all the info from your original order if you can.

Anyway, welcome to CT. Sounds like you have an impressive collection and would like to hear more about it. Good luck.

    Hi DiveChief,
I think when your new card was issued you might have had to reorder.
Remember you are dealing with Pitney-Bowes.....
You should have a order # using your new card. If you do you should get it for price indicated on that order. If you don't and they don't have a order # thats when it went south.

I'd call them like the others have suggested and explain, wouldn't hurt.
    Good luck !!

Welcome to the forum, Dave. Unfortunately, when this happens:

the result is never good. You did nothing wrong, but there's bound to be inconvenience and hassles.

I don't think it's reasonable to expect that all your various pending online orders will adjust to new billing information in a painless fashion when your CC gets stolen or compromised. Some will be easy to change, some won't.

The lackey on the phone shouldn't have lied to you and told you they could change it. Or, maybe they could change it but they screwed it up. It sounds like the runaround I got from the post office when ... oh, wait, I think I see the connection...

Something like that happened to me a while back. I spoke with 3 different mint people and was given basically two different answers. I finally gave up and said the heck with it. If I am not terrible mistaken at that time I was told than once an order had been placed, information on that particular order number could not be changed or modified. I really, really hope I am wrong about this.

There is not excuse for rude or ill behavior toward people. I think you should do as suggested, call again and again if you have to until you get an answer you are satisfied with. Good luck and please let us know what you find out.

By the way welcome to coin talk.

The Lackey didn't lie. They changed the number on file. That doesn't change the number on existing orders. And when those orders come up it will try to bill the number it was ordered with, not the one currently on file. It gets declined and the order is canceled. The thing is you have to tell the lackey you have an existing order XXXXXXXX and that you need for them to go into that order and update the information in there as well. And you have to do that for each of your outstanding orders. That is somethng only the CS people can do, you can not change the order information yourself.

Thanks for all the suggestions, For the record I did have my order number when I called and talked to the CS rep. She said she changed it. I do not have a subscription so I hope they don't have a CC number on file, I don't think I would trust them with it.
