I bought this humble specimen just because its crusty, worn, and from the Big Easy Mint. Today I took a closer look at it, and I believe it has a repunched date, which is not mentioned as a variety in Briggs' book. There's clearly something under the 5 and the 7 which I hope you can see in my photos:

Honestly, I can't see anything. I don' t know what to tell you. Try to take some better pics tomorrow in the sunlight and see if you can bring out the anomaly under the date.:D

I see a die crack under the 1 but nothing under the 5 or 7.

I see what MAY be something inside the curve of the 5, or it may be dirt.

Sorry, but I just don't see any re-punching.

Sorry, but I am having a very hard time getting a decent enlargement of the date. I just used a softwood toothpick to clean away a bit of the black grime around the numbers, the 7 is definitely repunched- there is a "shadow 7" to the left of the 7-- there is also something going on just to the right of the 5 and in the top loop of the 8- but I can't tell exactly what. I will continue to try to obtain better images- thanks for your patience!

Here is another image, post-degunking. if the 7 is like a ball-peen hammer pointed to the left, there is a repeat of the hammer's striking surface to the left, and the handle is also repeated to the left, especially towards the bottom. May require some squinting, LOL. Fun to fiddle with these old coins, but may lead to eyestrain!
