Well I was all set to start sharing some of my coins , my kid installed the software for his new scanner on my computer , it took great scans of a new cent laying flat on the sacanner with one corner raised , But when I tried to scan some slabbed coins the pics were all blurry :(, Am I doing something wrong , or is there something I could do to make it come out as nice as the cent did , any help deeply apreciated .

Any time I tried scanning my PCGS slabs, it always came out blurry and distorted. The holder just reflects light differently and the scanner tweaks out.

Was the slab blurry or just the coin? Maybe you could post one of the blurry pics... I think I'll go scan my only slabbed coin and see what it looks like. I'll post shortly...

OK... here's the scan of my only slabbed coin. The seller tossed it in with a bunch of low grade Walkers that I bought on eBay. I didn't edit the picture other than crop it.

Its just the way they come out on the scanner its only good for raw coins

How do I go about uploading the scanned file to show the coin?

When you scan something, the image is automatically saved as a .jpg (and given a file name such as scan0001.jpg); most scanner software (and I have a really inexpensive scanner) allows you to edit the image and "save as" whatever and wherever you want to. So I crop the image, save as "slab.jpg" and then upload from the "manage attachments" section of the "go advanced" post. That's how I do it, but I'm sure others will tell you the correct way.

What's the go advanced post ? I can save the file , but getting it to the thread and post is where I'm lost .

Well, directly below the "quick reply" message box you will see two buttons. One says "post quick reply" and the other says "go advanced". On the "go advanced" screen you can scroll down to "additional options", click "manage attachments", click "browse", find your file and double click it, then hit "upload". That should do it... it will place it in the message field where you can type your message above or below the picture (you won't see the picture, only the link until you hit "post reply").... and believe me, I'm alot older than you, and if I can do it, anyone can!

These statements apply to most scanners.
They are designed to be in focus at the surface of the glass.
And they have almost no depth of field.
Therefore anything NOT actually on the glass surface will be out of focus, and the further away the worse it will be.
A slab holds a coin's surface something on the order of a tenth of a inch away from the glass.
    Hence, poor focus.

    Some solutions:
    1. Crack the coin out (since I'm very pro-slab this solution hurts)
    2. Use a digital camera (expensive to buy a proper one so see if you can borrow one)

You have a similar problem to Hawksquat "Sanning coins". He too loses focus when coins are tilted. I don't seem to have your problems and I can,t seem to figure out what the problem is. Here are three scans I just took:
#1 extreme height , deck of cards face down in box---- glare 90%, maybe 10% focus but fixable with any scanning software.

#2 calculator face down and #3 pencil heights---no problems
Could it be your programs? Hope it is not your scanners.

OH, OH, I cannot post anymore scans. Must have posted my limit.
    What's my limit ?

Try different heights and see what works best. I find pencil height works just fine. GOOD LUCK

    Either can I  , I think I'll buy a camera , as the scanner is only a $200 one .

Kanga , most of my good coins are in slabs that I bought that way , and like you I like my slabs , so camera it'll have to be :)

I found out that my scanner only does raw coins clearly. It is a fact, that when the coin is above the surface of the scanner, your scans will be blurry. kanga is right on this one. It's gotta be a digital camera for slabbed coins.

KANGA, I have to disagree with you to a point. Tilting a coin or slab at a 30 or 40 degree angle will not always cause focus problem i. e. my scanner. A deck of cards is 5/8's in high and focus is not the main problem, glare is. Anything lower should be no problem scanning a slab or coin. If it is then something is wrong IMHO. Can you scan other objects at various angles with no problems? Wish I could show you , my friends, some scans I took. Have ask Doug why I'm not allowed attachments ?? See scanning coin post by Hawksquat.
