Hey gang, I need your help. Trying to attribute my foreign coins and get info on them. Currently looking at a proof silver half dollar from 1966 from Canada. Krause does not have info on a proof half dollar being minted in 1966. The fields of the coin are highly mirror like and it may be an unc half that is proof-like. Any more info will be helpful such as mintage and value. Thanks.

Ok, I found in Krause, that Canada made Proof-like sets. They made one in 1966. I am wondering if this came from one of these sets?

Thanks guys! I picked it out of a junk box at my local coin shop for $2.50! Somewhat scratched up on the relief, but I just love these Canadian Half dollars.

That's a terrific proof coin you have there. Did you pick up a 1948 dollar in the same junk box? Now there's a nice coin!

    Are you thinking 49?

Nope, I'm talking about the 1948, although that is a nice '49. An MS60 1948 is approximately $1,300, the king of the series. I do have one, but it appears to have been cleaned in the past, ugh!

Sorry to see your 48 and the abuse that it took. Don't you hate when that happens? Aside from the cleaning, still a nice coin to have in your possession.

Weryon that is one nice gold coin! That would be gem to own.

Someone took the bril-o pad to that 48, but it would still be a great coin to have in my Collection :D

The gold 20$ coin is not from my collection btw , but it is fantastic :D

Yeah, it makes my stomach turn when I think about the numbnuts who cleaned it. Nonetheless, it's still a '48 and looks fantastic when you squint your eyes!

The only worse thing than a cleaned coin is learning you own a counterfeit coin. I sold most of my gold in March through Stacks. Out of approximately 200 coins, 2 of them were fakes, both $10 Indians. At least they're off the market now!

The coin you have is a proof like coin and does fetch a higher premium then a regular strike/ I would say a couple of more dollars for the proof like miror surfaces.I don't think they made business strikes for that year

I think it was in a special mint set. The coin is not even listed in the Candian coin site I go to/ It looks like a cameo

I don't know how we got onto the 1948 dollar - but just gotta show mine as well. :) It's in a Canadian GuardMaster album along with my other Canada dollars, the first set I ever completed.
