Have any Lp2's been certified as legit double dies yet? Are these Philly only? What states are they appearing in? Mintnewsblog http://mintnewsblog.blogspot.com/2009/06/2009-lincoln-doubled-die.html appear to have endorsed these "thumb" ones as legit DD's, anyone disagree? No Denver DD's right?
I have seen photos of 4 different DDR on PCGS forum. All I have read about have shown up in the P mint rolls of a few particular dated boxes/rolls. The boxes from 4/27-4/30 ( label on side of box of 2 rolls)seem to be the most fruitful, with 4/29 seemingly a higher ratio. There is also a die clash that produces spikes from the chin of Abe. Jim
I decided to unwrap a mint wrapped 2009P LP2 with a label on the white box of 8:50 4/27/09 to see what was actually in it. I found 9 of the DDR-001 ( doubled thumb) and 8 of the DDR-002 ( six finger, but not as strong as some) also found 5 of the clashed obverse which has lines from the chin to the coat. Some are calling it the spiked chin ( hopefully thinking it will enhance the demand I am sure). 22/50. Now I am waiting to see what happens before I open any more of the same time/date. Jim
If we are finding 8 and 9 per roll of the DD's, I'll wait for circulation finds..... I have a cpl sets of the rolls courtesy of a cointalker, but will not break them. This 20% or so ratio makes it seem it is not a rare but rather just an interesting variety/error.
