Given our common interest does anyone else feel slightly guilty creasing or spending uncirculated bills? I had an ATM spit out 2 sequential $20's the other day. Hate to be the instigator of their demise but I already have more Unc's in my collection than I need.
I guess that's one of the tough decisions you have to make with paper money. It's so hard to get that star note in change only to realize you NEED to spend it later.
Yeah especially when that star note is a $100 bill. My wife just seems to have the knack for finding star notes. Working a Wendy's helps, but I went through about $600 in $1 bills at banks looking for star notes and found 3. She finds usually that many in a week in $20 bills down to 1$ in a week.
For me if an ATM spits em out and they are NY's..I'll keep em.... but not too many I find in circ that I want to keep...mostly stars. Picky huh?? RickieB
i rarely get cash from an ATM. BUt if they are non stars, i might keep 1 or 2 for my collection... if they are stars... now then i try to keep them all
Nah, I spend CU notes all the time...even star notes unless something else catches my eye like a fancy serial number. Heck, I've even spent the occasional red seal $5 or $1 silver certificate if they were in less than fine condition. Sort of fun to put an old note back into circulation sometimes.
err... dursin .. dont make me follow you around to buy all those notes you insist on spending PM's are so much easier lol
So far I've been keeping all my stars, but recently a teller has been setting those aside for me so maybe I'll be able to part with some of the more beat up ones.
It's hard, but if you love something set it free. If it comes back (and you can recognize it) it'll be yours forever.(If you still want it)
Agreed. It's funny you never know what kind of reaction you'll get. Brought some old bills to a coin show couple months back and used a small face hundred to pay for a roll of quarters I bought. The seller didn't even recognize it at first. I thought for a sec he was going to accuse me of passing a fake. Never thought something like that could happen there of all places.
I don't usually keep money, crisp or not that I get out of the cash machine. Except for the very rare occurrance when I kept a crisp $20 with only 2 digits on the serial #
