Picked this guy up today since it was missing from the collection.
Beautiful Vivid Green Seal and SN's.

The only NY version I have seen in a while, while not CHCU, it is AU53 which is acceptable in my grade range for the collection.

    Take Care!!

You know, that's so weird...I was looking at my Chicago and Richmond 1928C $10's yesterday and I was wondering if you had the NY one in your collection. Was actually going to go look at your collection online and see if you had it and forgot!

So...nice pickup! Don't think I need to ask, but....please post a pic when you get it!

Yea.. this one is in a PCGS holder AU53...have to wait till it come in to post.
It has a nice horizontal fold right down the ole pike!

But hey, until another comes around I thought I had better jump!
These are very infrequent to say the least!

2-5K for what note? The 1928C $20's? The $10 NY should run run well under $1K in ChCU.

I think he was saying the $20 was in that price range :)

but it still astonishes me the prices we pay for a piece of synthetic paper with ink on it :D

Yep, surprised me sometimes as well!

    btw: What is non-synthetic paper?

    Indeed it was the $20....

I got into the $10 well below $400.

They are just simply not offered very often.

Good luck on the $20 Urban....

Yes, I noticed that the NY notes aren't seen that often. Seems like the Chicago notes are the most abundant by far, followed by Cleveland and then New York with the Richmond notes being all by non-existent. Sort of strange since the print run on the Cleveland notes notes is less than half that of NY and they sell for at least five times what the New York notes.

i need yo get mine graded. i am still astounded by the price i got mine for. what grade do you think it would get from a TPG?

Really hard to tell. Here's mine. It's graded as Extra Fine 40 and I can't find a single flaw in it. Even holding it up to light and looking closely with a loupe doesn't reveal anyting and it still seems to have embossing though it's sorta hard to tell through the holder.

Now the other one...well, it's not in a holder, but I'm pretty sure I can guess the grade. :) Sort of amazing how those apple green seals can even manage to look sort of nice on a well worn note like that.

now...someone here needs to get the Cleveland district and we'll have all of them!

    Here is the image...

both of your notes are much better than this example..

See the crease across the face?

Oh well..it's ok for now. At least I have an example of it.

Great notes urban, dursin and RickieB. I love those different shades of green that used to be on bills.

honestly even know this has the chet krause pedigree i would resubmit it. there is no way this note is only a 40. if there arent creases or folds of any kind i would think this note should grade AU. closer to the grade that rickies is. i was thinking mine was pretty close to AU. anyways the note looks great rickie. keep'em coming

    Dursin....

I almost suggested you resubmitt as well...however, the Contest I just had the Note looked very nice and I paid CHCU money for it raw!

It had been pressed and came back at the Grade you all saw. VF 30

It is my understanding that when using a UV light, you can distingush the pressing of a note...how to see it and what it looks like I have not seen personally!

There is a 50/50 chance you would take by resubmitting!
Losing the CK pedigree or not! I agree with Urban that is looks like it should grade better..heck mine has a medium impression crease across it for God's sake! That $1 1917 looked great too...see what happend to me on that one?
Made me upset I was taken and fooled..I learned something there.
Look closely at that note..cover every millimeter and note down what you see. There has to be a reason for what they saw..somewhere!
So it's up to you...should I? or should I not?

May the Force be with you!!!

Not a big fan of graded notes so if I were to crack that note out of the holder, it would probably just go into a standard non-tpg holder. Probably won't though as I actually value the documented pedigree more than the opinion on the grade. On the other hand, it is a plate note from the book so I really don't need the holder to establish where it came from. Hmmmm.

I might have to find a source of UV light (other than the sun!) and take a look, but from what I can tell, I don't see any flaws at all. I would also think that if the grade did suffer due to some sort of processing it would be noted on the holder. Was anything noted on the VF30 holder for that 1917 $1?

As for the New York note...looks nice. I don't see much of a crease that really distracts from it. Seal has the typical eye catching color for the series.

No..nothing mentioned because it was not repaired!

A UV light through the slab will not do you any good. It has to be directly on the paper...this is one area that I want to learn more about!

    ***Dug this up just now***

"At the very least, a washed or pressed note may lose its original sheen
and its surface may become lifeless and dull.
The defects a note had, such as folds and creases, may not necessarily be
completely eliminated and their telltale marks can be detected under a good light."

I understand the pedigree and the status as the cover note..thats why I said it's a 50/50 chance...ohhhhhh the pressures of life's decisions!
