    ugh

I cannot believe those 1804 and 1807 dollars are still up. I reported them almost immediately (if I remember correctly, it was just an hour or two into the 3 day listing). Seriously, why even list those obvious silver dolar fakes? The seller's ID will hopefully be NARU'ed tomorrow.

Wow, I just went back to look at the listings before finishing this, and the guy has over 15 listings--including a "gold" coin. And they even have bids! Yikes.

the first 2 appear to be from a reputable seller (on the surface anyway), but with pictures that poor I wouldn't bid on them.

    wrote to that seller

I wrote to that seller in England yesterday and asked if he knew that he was selling a fake coin. I told him it was one of the most counterfeited coins today. I also suggested that he add "replica" to the auction if he really intended to sell it. He had a 100% feedback, so I thought I would warn him about it first before reporting it as he is probably a legitimate seller that just don't know any better. As of this writing, no change, so I reported it.

The other 1804 and 1807 silver dollars have been removed, but that sellers fake Trade Dollars are still up. Plus he has several Morgan Dollar auctions--which probably means they are fake coins (or fake listings) as well. I just don't understand it. If a seller has 10 coins and four of them are obvious fakes (like early silver dollars) and the other six are probably also fake (such as 1875 and 1876 S and CC mint marks), ebay will only remove the four obvious fakes. In my mind, if many coins are fake, chances are, the others are fake as well. It is just harder to prove the Trade Dollars are fake. Ebay needs to address this issue, but probably won't because they make money on each transaction.

Rule #1 for dealing with ebay coins: NEVER, EVER BUY A COIN FROM CHINA!

That's because "probably" isn't good enough. For example - if you probably comitted a crime - should you be convicted ? Or should they have to prove that you DID commit the crime ?

If you can for certain, based on a picture, tell that a coin is fake - they will remove it. But if it is possible that the coin is genuine - they will not. That is how it should be.

I have also reported the obvious fakes to eBay, but thought I should post information about these coins here, as a warning to unsuspecting buyers.
