Ok, thought it was time to see more of Todd's great photos of some more of my coins. I tried to pick a few that have somewhat similar toning. My last post on the first group generated a lot of discussion on artificial vs. natural toning, and this group has even more colorful toning, so I would love to know your thoughts on these.
outstanding what really makes them tone? i have lots lots of pennys none of them look even close to those is it age or is it done chemicaly
There is really no way to know for sure who these coins toned, but there are several ways coins can naturally tone, i.e., leaving them in an old album that has sulfur in the paper, or keeping them in those little old yellow sulfur paper envelopes, mint wrappers and mint bags can also cause toning - see my previous post with the first group (http://www.cointalk.com/forum/t55742-new/) for a lot of discussion on toned coins. And there are also various chemicals that can enhance copper toning.
thanks ill wait for them naturaly you always post very sweet coins when i can get better pics ill show some of mine
Me likey the 1899 And, IMO the 1908 is ugly... The others aren't as nice as the 1899, all JMO... They are are beautiful though, except the 1908... lol I wish I could grab me some toners like this.... I love the way the indians look, especially with the shade of blue... Nice pennies
At this point those coins are so exquisite that I don't care if someone, 50, 30 or 20 years ago, put them in sulfurous paper on purpose or not. You have an assortment of beautiful coins that render NT/AT moot. If one person put a coin in a yellow envelope on purpose to get it to tone, and another person put a coin in another envelope unknowing what it could do, what is the difference when the coins come out toned like yours? The intent? I don't see the problem in either case. Bruce
Thanks, Tmoney, but I'm not sure which 1908 you are referring to, since I didn't post a 1908, at least not yet. But if you like, here is my 1908 - perhaps you'll like it better.... And MrAlex, I agree completely - thank you.
Nice coins - especially that 1899. I was likewise wondering where the 1908 was. Nearly all your Indians have that bright red or orange/red on them. That coloring is very unusual with the Lincolns I have seen. Are you picking them because of this coloring or is it that much more common on Indians?
RLM, thank you. Actually, I really like multiple colors along with the red/orange tones, particularly violet, blue, purple, and magenta. But they have to have luster - that is one of my main criteria, and little or no spots.
Thank you KSparrow - it has taken me quite a while to acquire these, and I am always looking for prettier and better ones. And I'm really having fun being able to share them since I found Todd (bluccphotos.com) who takes amazing photos!
THE 1899 IS MAGNIIFICENT, I think that's the 1st time I've used that word , the strike and color is all there . rzage
