Went to the bank yesterday got a full bag of half dollars ($1,000) and I found 9 silver halves I got my first walking liberty! 1933-S I was so excited because the last bag yielded not one silver half. :goofer:

Well I just went through 4 rolls of wheat pennies that I got off of an ebay auction. I paid 12.00$ and did a local pickup.

I just leafed through them real quick and found 3 steels and 2 Indian heads. I havent looked any closer for dates yet, but I did notice a lot of 1919's when I was scanning through them. I'll post more results later.

    Box of Half Dollars

    Found 4 x 90%ers, 7 x 40%ers, 2005p and 2006s

Not bad for my first box from Bank of America...

ps. I like to boxes Loomis use better than the boxes that Brinks uses.

    Continued Good Luck!

So, i've been reading the posts in this thread for awhile and have been amazed at what everyone has been finding. I've been concentrating on halves for several months now and found a few Franklins, lots of 1964 Kennedies and tons of 40% Kennedies. But i've never found any Walkers in rolls...until last week.
I went into my usual bank to order 2 boxes of halves and the teller said she had 19 rolls of halves and would i want them? Absolutely!
When i started opening them in my car i could tell that someone had organized these rolls at one time due to the writing on them (Bicentenial, 1971, 1974, etc.) As i opened them i started getting a pile of 40% halves and ended up with 32. Not bad for 19 rolls, and definitely better than my usual box finds. I got to the last roll and opened the end and my heart skipped a beat...there was the reverse of a Walking Liberty half staring back at me! I then noticed scribbling on the side of the roll...."SILVER" in old faded ink. Lo and behold, there were 11 Walkers and 9 Franklins! All coomon dates and mintmarks, but still. What a haul!
I went back to the bank to ask if the person had brought in rolls of any other coins(but no such luck) and here is the story they told me:
It seems that a guy brought these rolls and some loose dollar coins that were scooped up right away by a teller (i'm hoping they were Ikes and not Morgans and Peace because that would've broken my heart!). He had brought all of these coins to a "collector friend" who told them they were not worth anything, so he cashed them in at the bank. Obviously this "friend" didn't look at everything, because by my reckoning, the roll of Walkers and Franklins is worth about 100.00 in melt value alone.
Either way, just another example of being in the right place at the right time!

Great find dano! Gives me motivation to get around to ordering my first box of halves, though your coolest find was from a non box roll it sounds.

Been able to find a couple of banks with free coin counting..do most of these machines count halves as well?

    Cereus.
Yes most do. They'll count the smaller dollars too, but not the Ikes. I am lucky, i found a local bank that doesn't charge for counting, even though i don't have an account. My personal bank will also count for free, but it has to be deposited into my account, which usually isn't a problem!

    Also,
Any half dollars 2002 and later were not intended for circulation (usually sold in mint sets or mint rolls), so if you find them, you've found something with significantly lower mintages than 1971-2001.
    Hope this helps.
