This might help to view die clashes on 2009 Cents. http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/2009_Cent_clash_overlay_LP1.jpg http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/2009_Cent_clash_overlay_LP2.jpg http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/2009_Cent_clash_overlay_LP3.jpg http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/2009_Cent_clash_overlay_LP4.jpg
Thanks. The LP3 looks like it has the most potential for nice die clashes because of the design. Now we know what to look for when they are more in supply. (If ever?)
It's not a die variety, just a die clash. And Coop's pictures of the overlay for LP2 proves that the coin from the original post is also a die clash.
OK Ken Potter said to send it in and he would authenticate it, is that the best way to go? Would NGC certify it as a clash if I just sent it in now or would they want an expert to declare it first?
OK NGC says they would not certify it for a die clash, PCGS customer rep says their expert would look at it and slab it as a die clash if he determines it to be so. But the website basically says they only do varieties that are in the books. Does anyone know for sure if they would certify them?
When a coin is freshly just minted getting a clash grade is very hard to get it authenticated. I would sent Ken Potter or John Wexler it may wroth $5-10.00 for the authenticated
Yea, I most likely will, I got an email back from billy crawford from die variety news, he says definitely a clash and wants some more pics from me. IN the next week he is coming out with a new issue that will have the formative DDRs, there appear to be at least 3 DDRs involving the double thumb and has given them C numbers. There has got to be a ton of the double thumbs out there, I told my friend to open his roll and he found 12 of them in his roll, i found 14 in my roll.
Coop, comes thru again! I knew he would have at least the first, and most likely the second, but I didn't think he would have all foiur! Way to go Coop! those look like they will have many possibilities! I was looking for the mark on the neck, (thinking prisioner cent). WRONG! If we ever get to handle these things, it will be nice. Thanks Coop! Dick
Was that the only EC example you found? I have been trying to track down '09 clashes and post them on my website (in a Clash section). I have a FY and a PL, I need an (example of or one to borrow and shoot) EC and a PW (if there is one out there)... It's here: http://www.lincoln-cents.cuvelier.org/Varieties/Clashes/index.html
i have found several of those. they are clashed dies, fairly common but they have sold on ebay for over a $100 now about 5 or 10 in gem
Found one just like yours on the following sight. They're claiming die clash. http://rareerrorcoins.com/penny-error-coins/ I've got a few LP3 with die breaks on the far right window. They're not commanding much premium. Yet.
