What an interesting year for coins. There have been hours spent on Coin Talk so far this year with threads and replies concerning '09 coinage. Of course it started with the Lincoln Dollar and then the #1 topic has been the Lincoln Cents. Elaine made a comment yesterday or so we may never see another year like this one, I think she is correct.
Yep! An interesting year in coins to say the least... With all these "RARE" coins... lol And once they hit circulation, and we just start seeing them, they will be like log cabin pennies! You can't sell a P AND D set at 99 cents! Yes the dimes and nickels have lower mintages, but they will just sell high at the moment... Nothing more...Soon, the market will be flooded with them! If I could find a 09 nickel, I'd be saying hello to $40 at least!
I think the year 2006 will be hard to beat. With the Gold Buffalo's, the gold and silver anniversary sets and the platinum burnished set, this is my bench mark year. To many of the Gold Buffalo coins were probably made to be worth a lot of money but to me that is one sweet and beautiful coin, especially the proof. Just my opinion.
Mr. Coin Lover - interesting thread. It's funny how fickle coin collectors can be. Just step into the time machine and check out Coin Talk in 2007 and 2008. Everyone's complaining. The mint is putting out too much stuff - it's junk, etc. Ruining the hobby. Go back to classic coinage. So on and so forth. Thread after Thread after Thread. Now, step out of the time machine and how many threads do we see where the mint site is too slow - I can't get what I want - When will I get it? How important is the date stamp on my box.... Oh , whine, whine. What a difference the prospect of making a few dollars makes!
speaking of 09 coins. my banks tell em that not only are they not going to get the new pennies, but they are also not getting the new dollars. What's up with that? They only thing they are getting are quarters, hurray :-(.
And were only 5 months into the year with more to come. LP3&4, uncirculated set etc. etc. And the rumored lincoln bicentenial set to close out the year hopefully.:thumb:
On Friday at the Sinclair gas station I found a 2009 D Lincoln Cabin Cent in the take a penny/give a penny tray. This is the first 2009 coin I have seen in circulation.
They still have Sinclair gas stations!? They probably got tired of getting stuck with a bunch of them so they aren't going to order anymore of them.
