This beauty was a raw $10 ebay purchase that I just received in the mail. The coin is dripping with luster. Opinions on the toning? What would she grade?

Beautiful coin! Not sure on grade, but the obverse has very nice detail. For $10 I think you got a heck of a deal.

Looks almost like it was album toned. Not any good on grading these coins - monticello looks really weak thru columns and windows. My swag would be MS63.

The obverse looks really good, maybe a few contact marks, MS63; the reverse is a little tougher due to a combination of, I think, the toning and the picture, I'd guess the reverse is MS63 also; so.....a of net MS63 :D Nice pick-up!

    Nice coin.

    Looks like an average BU.
Weak details and lots of "bag marks".

    Nice color on the reverse.

    Price seems reasonable.

The grade depends on whose standards you want to use. NGC is very forgiving of marks and strike for this series but holds luster extremely important. My guess is that if the luster is as good as you say, NGC would grade the coin MS65. I don't think this would go above MS64 with PCGS. Neither service would award full steps and although the toning is attractive, it has no shot at a star designation.

Would grade AU-58 to MS-63; would have to look for wear on Jefferson's jaw and ear.

    Not bad for $10.

I agree with whatever Lehigh says. He is the resident expert IMHO. I just started collecting these due to Lehigh posting his awesome coins. I can pick up a lot of these dates for about $10 at my dealer for GEM grades. Just got a 64 39 D for $42.50 which was a little more pricey, but it's one of the rarer nickels.

Now, I have to say, that is a purty coin... :) (Like all of your coins, johnny)
Not a bad price either, and a good coin! Well done, and I'm really digging the color
